    i have also same problem with i phone 4s. i was using it with İOS verison 6.0.1(10A523) and evrything was fine. But suddenly it doesnt find any wifi and when i reset it wifi button greyed out.

    my i phone is under warrantty to may 2013. But i live in Turkey and There is no apple store. So i cant replace it. İ tried all methods,  putting fridge : it works but just for 10 minutes. İ restore network settings to default: it works, again it broken. i repeated this method again and again.

    Now this method doesnt work

    Apple is a big company and too many customers have same problem. Why dont apple do something , at least an explanation ? This is really awful.. please hear our voice Apple !!!

    The only method working to me right now, is the flashlight app trick.. wifi is working for 2 weeks already since last grey out, make a backread about this and hope it works on your phone.. good day!

    yep! works for me too but whenever i turn the wifi on, it wont be able to search for networks available. sometimes it can connect but then only for a few minutes or hours then connection is gone. Im afraid to reboot my phone because if i do, the wifi will go back to being "greyed out" are you experiencing this kind of problem?

    with the flashlight app trick? NO, after it drains, left it for 5 mins to rest, then full charge, 'til now my WiFI is still working

    I have the same issue. If you get the wifi going by all of the options, Reset Network settings, reconnecting to Wifi again. Turn wifi off, on, blah, blah Flash light App trick drain battery, freezer bag trick ( not recommended )


    I'm sick and tired of this issue with Apple and there latest ios 6.0.1 shambles, so I've decided to turn the wifi off, until Apple provide a fix to the thousands of customers out there, that have the same issue with Iphone 4, 4S, 5S.


    Way to go Apple. I hope your Genius Bar Guru's are trolling this thread and the other ones and reporting back to Management, about the total lack of customer service and the BS stories trying to say that it's a hardare issue when we had no issues on ios 5.

    Further to my earlier post….

    Went to Apple Genius

    They looked then went round the back then came back

    it's a hardware fault with the wireless chip they said out of warranty ……

    Give us £140 & we will replace

    Challenged this interpretation of reasonable time for such a high value item that is typically on a 18 / 24 month contract from the telco

    Got store manager

    who very technically advised that the Wifi chip is also "flashed" by the update & that any faults come to light at this point???

    I don't think this is the case but he does work for Apple so must know I guess

    NO movement from him any way

    INTERESTINGLY I let my phone go flat that evening the following day I tried switching it on a few times to totally kill the battery

    when I could not get it to even sow the battery icon I charged it up

    WiFi working & has been now for over a week!! strange chip / hardware fault

    In my case the phone was already swapped by Apple for a previous manufacturing fault so they became the retailer not my Telco (I think)

    This was going to be my next approach... consumer sites indicate the following has been sucessfull

    Sale of Goods Act 1979 (amended 1994) should be of satisfactory quality fit to do the job intended and last a reasonable length of time

    For such a high value item just over 12 months is not reasonable

    EU Law indicates 24 months  would be reasonable

    Contact the Head office via letter / e-mail advise them that you are not satisfied

    ask them to repair / replace & give them a reasonable time to respond (2 weeks?)

    If refused or ignored get a quote for repair & send it to them

    ask them again to repair / replace or meet the cost of the repair

    give them a reasonable time to respond

    If refused or ignored get the work completed send them a bill for the cost of the repair
    advise that you will take legal action if not paid in full
    give them a reasonable time to respond

    If refused or ignored log a claim with the small claims court for cost plus reasonable expenses

    I am not a legal expert so suggest you check the above before embarking down this route

    you may end up out of pocket!!

    The time and effort involved isn't really worth it but to make a point to the retailer / manufacturer would give some satisfaction & dealing with you would probably cost them especially if they represent themselves to the court

    Very interesting.  Try to turn the phone off while the battery is dead.  This furthers my supsicion 6.0.1 has thrown a sensor calibration off kilter and they are not willing to own up just yet.  New update should be coming out which can take care of this.  But the unapologetic approach taken by apple is not new.


    Remember "You are holding it wrong"?  This I think is far worse antennagate or the maps fiasco.

    Мне видится, что необходимо обращениe в суд о призннании  действий Apple выпустившего некачественный продукт неправомерными в отношении неограниченного числа потребителей. А после того как решение суда вступит в силу, решить вопрос о получении финансовой компенсации.

    многим умным людам и корпорациям видилось то же самое, где то они сейчас?

    но если честно случаи бывали, однажды когда яблочко захотело оно пообещало и

    до сих пор дает бесплатные бамперы, которые стоят им 10 центов в происводстве.

    добровольно яблочко дает больше, диски вон меняет и первого поколения аипад.

    поэтому люди здесь и плачутся и обещают покупать Самсунг. пытаются разжалобить.

    барин вот приедет, барин рассудит... На мой непросвещенный взгляд все может быть,

    но я не поставлю копейки на того кто судит их. Не рентабельно после года хождения

    в суд получить десятицентовую компенсацию.

    I have put the Beta4 IOS 6.1 developer on and no changes. All the hard,soft reset did not work and since when do we need to use a hair dryer, the freezer to make this issue go away? I am going to use the toilet bawl trick to see if the smell solves the problem.


    I tried all options without any success. Apple services is going down the tube very fast, in store customer services is becoming a best buy experience, and the product latest upgrade post S. JOBS are mediocre. Easy to blame the latest but I have been an Apple customers for 10 years + and I have never ever experienced the latest. It is becoming now routine with Apple (a resilt of success) I presume.


    Bottom line: My phone no longer gets Wifi (A phone without WIFI is a useless Brick) I dont want to paid excess data fees with my ATT data plan).


    If a permanent fix is not published shortly. I am going to drop iPHone device and move to (Samsung Anfroid) - after all the apps I REALLY use on the iPhone are already available on Androids.


    I wish I had a permanent fix to communicate here to all but like all - My phone is S**T now.

    I had the same problem. Wifi gred out i went to the bar. They said sorry you warrnty is up (it was less then a week) I feel these things are programmed to bad bad after that. I takled to the manager nicly they game me a load of BS. I told them they are going to lose a apple user forever and they didnt care. I was about to get a ipad but but not now. I then got mad and stated talking louder so other people would hear me. He did listen anymore he got their rent a cop secuirty to "escort" me out and said i pay $200 for a fix or leave the store. They dont give a crap about  anyone its all about squeezing the last penny out of their users.


    F Apple im done with them.

    iPhone 4s problem solved by service.. They replaced my phone. No explanations or guidance given, just new phone. So if the basic fixes doesnt work - go and get your guarantee service and most likely new phone. Just my 0.002 cent worth..


    (Just a side note - funny part is that the new phone has 6.0 iOS.. not 6.0.1)

    Having read the various posts this seems to be the best option for those still under warranty - it is what I am going to do this afternoon. If out of warranty then 'lineation's' advice about sale of goods act is a good route to try (also go to for more on how to argue on these terms).

    речь идет о создании прецедента, а именно признании действий APPLE неправомерными в ОТНОШЕНИИ НЕОПРЕДЕЛЕННОГО ЧИСЛА ЛИЦ (ПОТРЕБИТЕЛЕЙ) и это может иметь определенный интерес, на мой непросвещенный взгляд 8-)
