Q: iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

As reported in an earlier thread, since upgrading iPhone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6, the WiFi option is turned OFF and is greyed out/disabled. Have tried all combinations of hard/soft reboots, router resets, network settings reset, cleared cookies, etc. Nothing. The WiFi option is completely disabled.

WiFi worked fine prior to iOS 6. Now I can't turn it on. My wife's WiFi is fine, she can toggle on/off and hasn't had any other connectivity issues as reported by others.

Thanks so much for the advice. I had the same problem and was starting to worry as my bill was becoming huge with no wifi!! Don't know much about computers or technology so your advice was much appreciated. Understand vaguely anyway there's some issue with the heat sensor. Anyway used the hair dryer for 3 mins, let the phone cool down and now the wifi switch is working again! Thanks a million

I had my iPhone 4S 16 GB working properly for more than a year. Only since the update to 6.0.1 my WiFi failed (greyed out button). This did not happen immediately, but after a couple of days/weeks (I cannot remember exactly). Later on I additionally got the battery problem.

One thing I did right before the WiFi problem: I downloaded an app called myRemote (Phillips) and tried it with my TV; that was the exact time my WiFi failed. If this caused the problem or was just coincidental – I don't know.

During the last weeks I tried everthing to get my WiFi back (reset, DFU reset …) without success and decided to wait for iOS 6.1.

Yesterday I finally updated to 6.1. The battery problem seems to be solved, WiFi not. So I got myself a case ID and called Apple Support. Since my Apple warranty is expired, the only possibility is to have the iPhone repaired (???) or replaced. Both will cost € 211,10. No other comment to the whole problem from this lady …

WHERE I CAN BUY THIS CHIP????

Since there is no such thing as the wi-fi+bluetooth thing on the EBAY, there is no other way for me to buy it.

Here is the article in russian language (press translate if U are in Chrome) 'bout this problem. Guys are telling here about the epic apple's fail 'bout this modules and about the only FIX of this problem - the actual replacement:

I am in the same boat, tried all the tricks - except heat/cold - still sporadic wifi and constant network resets/battery drain to get wifi again.  Has anyone tried to jailbreak the phone to see if it makes any difference?  Thanks

I have the most recent update and my wifi still wasn't working. Took it to best buy they did a factory reset and tried all other suggested procedures and after the problem remained they said it was coincidental that the wifi went out when I updated to iOS 6 and that I'd have to go to apple and pay hundreds of dollars

To get my phone replaced since it was out of warranty. I had tried the hair dryer method and freezer method. I read on the Facebook page about this problem to try it multiple times. It took four times to finally get it working. I put the dryer directly on the phone under the camera for five minutes and let it cool for 15 before turning it back on. And it's been working for over an hour. I want to go to best but and shove it in their face!

Having the same wifi grayed out problem after ios upgrade on 4s. Even IOS 6.1 did not resolve it. Apple atleast give some official reply as so many of us are being troubled by this problem.
