Q: iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

As reported in an earlier thread, since upgrading iPhone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6, the WiFi option is turned OFF and is greyed out/disabled. Have tried all combinations of hard/soft reboots, router resets, network settings reset, cleared cookies, etc. Nothing. The WiFi option is completely disabled.

WiFi worked fine prior to iOS 6. Now I can't turn it on. My wife's WiFi is fine, she can toggle on/off and hasn't had any other connectivity issues as reported by others.

I am frustated with this iphone 4s for 2weeks because of wifi greyed out with no solution, several of store is giving me a solution to check it and maybe a failure in hardware, but i'm not believe, because i never drop this iphone. untill today, i'm using nissan xtrail car 2003, there is a cooler box inside my car, i try to put it for 5-7 minutes in it in a SHUT DOWN condition, and after i turn on the device, i straightly go to the setting, and happy to saw my wifi status Not Connected which is alreadyTurned On. Because I swear to myself if this last try cannot giving a solution, i will change to SAMSUNG,

I hope it will happen to you all,

Dear Apple, don't ever dissapoint market that loving you a lot.

    Regards,

    Tim

Tried the 'lineation' trick and it worked for me!!!  Need to completely drain battery as pointed out in the older post otherwise it doesn't seem to work.  Hopefully my wifi will stay on now.

Alas this is short lived.  Worked for a short while then while the button still worked, no networks could be found despite several attempts.  Pressing phone power and home button reset it back to wifi being greyed out!  Really *****...

IOS 6 Wi-Fi GREYED OUT issue. The only thing I was able to do is restore from iTunes last backup. I noticed after resetting the iPhone and restoring from backup my Wi-Fi connectivity is still an ongoing issue. Continues dropping Wi-Fi connectivity and unable to detect other wireless signals. "DON'T RESET YOUR NETWORK SETTING" It will grayout your Wi-Fi option to turn it on. Does anyone know if restoring the phone before the last IOS patch could temporary fix this issue?

    APPLE HELP!!!

i had the same problem for 2 months now, but i discovered that everytime i remove my simcard, when i turn my 4s on without my simcard, wifi returns perfectly normal. I was planning to return it to our local store because it is still under warranty. I hope this would help others.

I've been reading this for days. I've tried everything except downgrading to iOS 5.1.1. Will this really work? Don't want to waste anymore time with "solutions" that don't really work.

Here’s what I noticed, after patching 3 major issues occur. Facing the back panel of the phone I’ve notice the Iphone 4s has gotten extremely hot located between the center and right top portion of the phone. Another observation was the fast battery drain. I’m watching the battery count down holding the device in my hand. After charging the phone overnight I notice no Wi-Fi signal, now I know the network is running because I tested my IPad after the update. After a few resets watching the Wi-Fi start and then fail after 2 minutes or sometimes not working at all. I contact a friend of mine that gave up his 4s purchases another non-apple phone. He had the same problems with Wi-Fi. I charged his phone to 100% then put it in the freezer for 30 minutes, OMG the Wi-Fi works again but the battery was almost drained. However after a few minutes have gone by and the phone has warmed up, the Wi-Fi signal has failed again. Now I’m stuck with two Iphone 4s with no Wi-Fi signal. I can’t say the Apple update may have caused the issue, but with many posting on the web about the same issue anything is possible.

Found something else funny, after purchasing a Cold Turkey Hill Ice tea. I placed the drink unopened on the backside of the iPhone. I waited 5 minutes then turn on Wi-Fi and watched as the device was able to establish Wi-Fi connection. What does this demonstrate? Just a theory, it sounds like a hardware problem when heat could force a “chip creep” its connection on the circuit board. Or could it be part of the firmware code. It’s possible this was some kind of failsafe to prevent hardware from being damage “example” its action is to shut off the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or both until it reaches a safe temperature.

    Good luck finding the truth!
