The genius says hardware fault and because 30 days out they can't do anything for free - Try the reseller. I pull out the info from ACCC - Australian consumer commission that says warranties extend beyond what they offer to what is reasonable, eg given is that you don't expect an expensive TV to fail 13 months after purchase. He says ok, I say please read it, he says I don't need to and I'll talk to a manager. He then offers 'parts replacement' I think he called it. Normally $229. New phone that may have some old parts. I'm happy with that. Phone now works. The fact that they don't immediately do this for each issue when they are clearly at fault is outrageous. We have so many mac products but I am seriously feeling they are treating me with contempt. You need to do better by loyal customers apple. To others in the same boat - don't take the standard read off the sheet answer from the young genius. Go hard!

someone posted something about iPhone's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth MAC being different on iOS6 when compared to iOS 5.1.1. I believe the update itself (iOS 5-6.X) changed the MAC, therefore disabling the Wi-Fi. The major issue in this statement is that heating/freezing restores the Wi-Fi for a few hours. It simply shouldn't.That statement prompted my previous response. Grayed out adapter sometimes has zeros for mac, since it is not detected by operating system.

Apple wake up, help us. Otherwise we should inform as much press & public as we can until Apple replies to the problem.
It is no longer the same Apple as before, unfortunately.

As a matter of fact, when I visited the nearest Apple store this past Friday, they told me, I kid you not, "I'm sorry, it looks like you're out of luck. When this happens, there's nothing we can do other than replace the phone. You can get new phone for $199 though since you've had this one for a whole four months." Just to clarify a little, I got my first iPhone in November of 2011. Since then, I've had four phones replaced by apple; this being the fourth, and last iPhone I will ever buy. Because I've had this one for over 90 days, they will not replace it even though the reason it isn't working is a direct result of their software update. I'm thoroughly dissatisfied with Apple and don't plan to ever by a product of theirs again.

1. As an electronic engineer, I was deeply deeply sceptical of any thoughts of freezing or heating my phone with a hair dryer. However, after trying unscuccessfully to downgrade to iOS5 on several occaisions, I did try the hairdryer treatment. It worked - for about 5 hours and then the problems came back. Out of total frustration, I left my phone on top of a radiator in our house over night. The heating comes on at 5am. At 7am I picked my phone up (it was pretty hot to touch, but no cosmetic damage). WiFI came on instantly and connected. That was 5 days ago - it's still working. Make of that what you will but if it helps you, I'm happy.
2. Before the success with the above radiator method, I was building up to go into the Apple Store in London to demand an out-of-warranty replacement. Did a little research on the subject and found out that last year Apple were forced into complying with the 2 year warranty for all consumer goods in the European Union. Take a look here : http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/ . This provides a 2 year cover for faults that were present when the product was bought by the customer. If you're in the EU this might work in your favour.

A link for doing a hard reset. Let me know if this works for anyone else.

Even if Wifi is back after a update, it will be greyed out soon.
Regarding the 2 year warranty in EU: It's not gonna work, as Apple build Wifi Chips into "affected" iPhones that will break after 1 year. Wifi was working when i bought it. Means you can't prove that it was damaged when you bought it.
