Mar 21, 2013 8:01 PM in response to VerBingby firnue,I would suggest not, if you're quite happy with it. The screen lock issue is not critical unless probably you're working on a NASA mission.
I had a friend with iPhone 5, both OOB with 6.0.2. Later on, one of them upgraded to 6.1.2, and end up frying the telephony function. Phone replaced a couple times. It's a waste of time though to go to Apple for a replacement, but my friend pick that choice since it's under warranty. The other friend remain with iOS 6.0.2.
So if it ain't broke, don't fix

Mar 21, 2013 9:44 PM in response to Trapdoresothby sid.rao,I had the same problem. WiFi option had greyed out and no matter how many resets, never worked. I had pretty much given up but the latest update to 6.1.3 seems to have fixed it. Just out of the blue. Its been more than a day now, and its still working great. Fingers crossed.

I just upgraded to IOS 6.1.3 and pronto! Wi-Fi is back!!!!
To think it took them like six months to fix this bug..... I'm just relieved they eventually got it nailed.
I had consistently maintained this was a software issue. If this upgrade works for everyone (and I hope it does ... ... - provided yours has not been over-fried or over-frozen!), it proves those who belonged to my school of thought were right afterall.
So long pals, hope we get to re-connect for better reasons.
Cheers.

Mar 22, 2013 7:10 PM in response to Trapdoresothby chichibaby,I unfortunately have not had such luck with iOS 6.1.3. I was really hoping this would be the fix I was waiting for but I still can't turn on WiFi I've tried everything that I've seen suggested...
This is my first Apple product and I've only had it for just over a year. What's up with that?! Never had an issue with any other phone that I've had. I just HAD to have an iPhone...Do I want to get it replaced or should I just go back to Samsung? Hmmm...

Mar 23, 2013 7:14 AM in response to Trapdoresothby andrewfromsparta,I upgraded to IOS 6.1.3 and the wifi came on.. like effing magic.. worked awesome, drove all over as I am a polce officer and every neighborhood I went into wifi was popping up from my car.. So I am thinking dang this works and works real well.. Bad news it worked for 20 hours and just as quickly as it started working, it stopped. I just cannot believe Apple is not doing anything about this..
Maybe we need to bring this to the news media and show how the big A is totally ignoring us..
In my home we have 3 iPhones, 3 Macbooks, 1 iMac, 1 iPad and about 5 iPods.. We have spent thousands of dollars with Apple.. Come on lets get on the ball Apple..

Mar 23, 2013 7:25 AM in response to Trapdoresothby placebo333,Don't you think it's time to admit that it's a hardware problem? I went through 2 stages with 2 of my devices.
Stage 1: Sometimes wifi comes back shortly (like updates, battery drain etc.)
Stage 2: Wifi greyed out stays solid
That freezing and heating have effect only proves that it's not software related and that it's hardware related. Why they are no reports of downgraded devices to 5.0 where the problem is fixed?
On ifixit.com i found one post related to this problem that makes sense:
I opened the phone and identified the location of the wifi module and heated it up with a solder station heat gun, whilst protecting other areas of the phone with heat shields. This essentially reflowed the solder which connects the module to the main board. It fixed the problem for me. It is a similar problem that people experienced with the PS3 system, where the main CPU became unconnected due to poor solder joints.
So please stop looking for software solutions. And yes Apple screwed up here

Mar 23, 2013 7:28 AM in response to placebo333by andrewfromsparta,What do you all think about starting a Face Book page to bring attention to this issue? Maybe Apple would do something about it if it was out there in the public eye and people thought twice about buying an iPhone?
Thoughts?

Mar 23, 2013 7:43 AM in response to Trapdoresothby placebo333,my advice:
Go to a "good" iPhone repair shop.
A bad one will try to replace your Logic Board (which comes nearly close to getting a refurbished one in the Apple Store). My local repair shop is considered "bad"
A "good" repeair shop will open device and have a look at your wifi chip and check soldering etc.
A "good" repair shop will also have the tools to replace the wifi chip.
But i found some skilled engineers on ebay, where i can send in my device for a free check. I will report, once i received an offer.

Mar 24, 2013 12:51 AM in response to Joe9019by Jazzykaren,TOday I tried the freezer trick, put it in a snap lock bag and put it in the freezer for 15 mins. It's been a day and its still working, last time I in I ungreyed it I turned airplane mode on, turned phone off, removed the sim, replaced it, turned ph on and did network reset and it worked until I charged it in the car, didn't work again though. Now I won't be turning my ph off at all or charging it in the car. When wifi was greyed out the battery didn't last long, now it's ok again. Touch wood.

Mar 24, 2013 4:26 AM in response to Trapdoresothby rollwaveroll,My wifi had been greyed out since 'upgrading' IOS in the fall. None of the tricks and tips have worked. I installed IOS 6.1.3 last night and the wifi came back on instantly. 12 hours later still going strong but we'll see how long it lasts.
