My ipad 3 is not charging after update to ios 6

The exact same thing is happening to my iPhone 4S!

Just got off the phone with Apple. At least the wait time was short and the technician spoke clearly, but ultimately the issue is not resolved.

First thing we tried was doing a hard reboot, then reset the phone by going into settings -> general -> Reset -> Erase Content and Settings. This was supposed to bring the phone back to IOS 5.1.1 and would confirm if it was the iOS6 or a hardware issue. it still wouldn't charge and so we assumed it was hardware and setup an exchange. Keep in mind this phone is less than 6 months old.

After the fact, I realized that the restore did not actually remove iOS6 and so made a second call to tech support. After talking to a senior tech rep we discovered that once iOS6 is fully installed, there is no going back. Especially since iTunes won't recognize the phone being connected in addition to the not charging.

I'm curious to watch this thread and see if the number of people with this problem continues to escalate. I think 5 could still be coincidence with literally millions of people upgrading to iOS6 but if there is in fact a software issue causing it I imagine this number to increase exponentially over the next few days and weeks.

The exact same happened on my iPhone 4 today when I upgraded to iOS. I tried multiple different chargers, it made the sounds like it was charging, but it wasn't actually charging. Now it has completely run out of batteries.

If I do a hard reset, it turns on for a second to show lock screen and 1% battery, but then it dies again.

This is stupid and not a coincidence. It's iOS6.

Come on Apple! My iPad 2 is about to be a $300 paperweight!

Same thing just happen to me, I bought my iPad 3 in Singapore just 2 weeks ago. While updating to iOS 6, ~50%, I plug the usb charger in and it didn't charge. Even tried after the update, and it didn't charge. I have 2 chargers, both didn't work. However it worked on my iphone 3GS.

This sounds like a major problem has apple said anything i cant imagine buying a iphone5 or ipad 3 and upgrading and then not being able to charge it. whats happens when the battery is completly drain ? thats it you suck with a paper weight ???

Ok wait up. I just fixed my problem and it's a wierd solution. So my ipad 3 did not work with my AC charger. Apple ask me to plug into the mac and try. It worked on my mac. After that, I plug my AC charger back on, and it somehow worked too lol. You guys should try. Plug into Mac and AC.

I also tryed to connect my iphone using the USB and it did not charge. Even Itunes did not reconize the device.

Same problem....after upgrading to iOS 6, my iPhone would not charge with the charger and cord I've used for 2 years. However, when I changed the cord, it started working again. Weird.

Great tip. I synced my dying iPad 3 with my PC via USB, and then reconnected it to its (generic 2 amp) USB charger, and the battery remaining percentage is finally rising rather than falling. 🙂

P.S. Edit: I should also note that it took several attempts for the PC to recognize the iPad 3 after the iOS 6.0 update, using iTunes 10.7. But after a number of false starts, it did sync fine, and started charging when I afterward connected it to the 2 amp USB charger.

My iPad 2 will not charge or turn on after the iOS 6 update!!! I've tried a hard reset and NOTHING!!! Any luck out there?

Same here... Before update to iOS 6, no charging issues... Now no charging at all for my iPad 3 with attempts at using multiple chargers and connecting to computer thru USB

I'm having the same issue here... Anytime I try plugging my 3rd generation iPad into my iMac, it says "Not Charging." I even got a warning from iTunes that said I had to restore my iPad, which is a pain, but I did it anyway; however, that didn't work...

MC, "Not charging" when plugged into a regular computer USB port is normal, since the amperage supplied is too low. (When working properly, it in fact will still charge, but just so slowly that Apple doesn't consider it worth noting.)

I regret that Kinglee's workaround that worked for him and for me isn't working for everyone, or you. 😟
