iPhone 4 stuck in recovery mode!

I tried to update my iPhone 4 to iOS 6 today and I keep on getting an error!

It says:

iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.

I press ok. Then I hit the Restore button. Then it downloads iOS 6 but it will not work. It is still just stuck in Recovery Mode. What do I do??

Try toput your iPhone 4 in DFU mode and then restore it.

You can try these steps below:

1. Try another USB cord.

2. Restart your computer for a try.

3. Hold the power button, it might restart your iPhone.

4. Update your iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPhone.

If iTunes can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help > run diagnostics.

On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPhone and then restore it.

If you're having the same problem, connect your iphone to your computer. It should open up itunes and ask you to restore the iphone in order to take it out of recovery mode. Trust me, I was panicking and was afraid to lose all of my data, but don't worry. To fix it, you do need to restore it, but you NEED to make sure you have all of your data backed up on your computer! DO NOT restore it if you don't have your data backed up, this will erase your data completely on your phone. After you've backed it up, you can restore your phone, follow the steps, and wait for your phone to restore to the factory settings. Do not panic like I did, just relax, disconnect your phone from your computer safely, reconnect your iphone to it again, and itunes should come up. When it tells you, "Welcome to Your New iPhone", you can choose the option to restore it from your last backup, and let it take time for all of your data to reload into your phone. Remember, be patient with your phone and all will be well. Hope this helps. 🙂

Just now I got error while updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 7, and it stucks in the DFU mode. But I found the solution after I installed TinyUmbrella.

1. Disconnect your phone from iTunes

2. Turn Off your phone

3. Install TinyUmbrella (http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/)

4. Connect your phone again

5. Click "Exit Recovery" at the top right of TinyUmbrella apps.

6. Done.

Your phone will restart then it returns to normal mode again. Hope it helps!

iPhone gets stuck in restore mode and the usual fixes (hard reset, restore from iTunes, 3rd party apps, etc) won't work:

Symptom:
During software upgrade the iphone gets stuck in the recovery loop. The screen shows the iTunes logo and USB cable.
When the phone is connected to iTunes it is recognized as needing to be recovered, but once you start the process iTunes just stays at "preparing phone for restore" and will never begin the process.
Some of these instructions sound silly or redundant, but this is exactly what I had to do.

Problem was solved by downgrading my version of iTunes:

Uninstall iTunes and all associated applications (apple mobile support, bonjour, apple updates, itunes)
Download and install iTunes 10.6.3.25
Find the iTunes folder in My Music
Rename the iTunes Library.itl to iTunes Library.old - This will hide the library from the downgraded iTunes installation. This is required because a library created by a newwer version of iTunes can't be read by an older version of iTunes.
Open iTunes. You will get a message that says iTunes can't find the library. It gives you the options of creating one yourself or allowing iTunes to create a new one. Let iTunes create it. It will be named something like iTunes 1.
Close iTunes.
Plug your iPhone into your computer.
Open iTunes.
If iTunes opens but stops responding, use the task manager to end the application.
You will need to open iTunes in safe mode. Hold Ctrl+Shift before opening iTunes and hold them until you get a message saying iTunes will be opened in safe mode. Click ok.
iTunes will now say that it found a phone that needs to be restored. Follow the directions provided in iTunes.

At the end of the process iTunes generates an error saying that the phone can't be restored, which is ok because all you need is to get the phone out of the loop, which is what this does.

Note: The phone is not upgraded. It still has the software version you started with, but it's out of the loop and usable.

After everything is complete:
Uninstall iTunes and all associated applications
Find the iTunes 1 folder in My Music and delete it.
Find the iTunes folder in My Music. Find the iTunes Library.old file you changed earlier.
Change it back to iTunes Library.itl
Download and reinstall the latest version of iTunes.
