Home sharing not working in iOS 6

Using ipad 3. I've tried everything including rebooting and resetting my settings and Apple ID. Cannot get it to work, it recognizes that a home shared library is available but will not download it, get "cannot turn on home sharing" in music and just stalls with a 2/3 shadowed circle in videos. Yet, all works fine on the iPhone 4's, iPad 2 and iPad 1 on same wifi network.

I've had no problem to my knowledge with wifi.

There are a few other issues too, but I'm hoping Apple will have a quick solution for all???

Just started working ok??? Did not do full reset??? However in Music, the only thing displayed is Playlists, Songs, Genre. Completely blank display under Artists, Albums, composers. This problem does not occur on the 5 devices (iPads 1&2-iPhone 4's still using iOS 5.1. Will not be updating their iOS until I have more confidence with my iPad 3 and the new iOS.

Having to spend this much time getting the new iOS to where it is now is not what I've come to expect from Apple. There was plenty of time to beta; and if it is a function of their servers then its poor planning and execution. I'm a user, not a beta tester. Very disappointed. I use the iPad mainly for reading, video and music enjoyment. Sure I use some f their native apps for reminders, etc. but do not need it for business or ... Maybe it's time to start exploring Amazon's and Google's offerings for the next iteration of hardware and software. Too bad, but this is what arrogance breeds ... Apple at be at its apex and will follow the pattern of Microsoft.

Mate,

I have more or less the same problem. Trouble is I updated both my iPhone 4 and the iPad 3 to IOS 6 (wish I'd only done one of them). Basically, both initially had trouble getting into the home sharing on my iTunes. Seems to work after a couple of goes or killing the music app and relaunching. But doing some strange things once running. Same as you, the artists tab is not correct, it pulls a few of them in but I'd say 90% are missing! Playlists and songs seem ok. iPad 3 prob behaves worse than the iPhone 4, sometimes you see the music tracks when in a playlist changing at the top like (hard to explain) but killing the music app and relaunching tends to fix this.

And don't get me started on the videos home sharing. So hit and miss with the album artwork, sometimes they show correctly but often there are lots of incorrect ones and random stuff shown. In my TV shows shared library it even came up on the iPad with album artwork for some of my songs. Bizarre.

So I think IOS 6 has made a bit of a mess of home sharing. Going in the opposite direction and using the 'remote app' to browse my iTunes library seems to display normally.

Bit dissapointed with IOS 6. No more streetview in maps, erratic home sharing. Seems more of a downgrade than an upgrade to me. I know Apple are very big on new features etc but I'd rather see them trying to fix the bugs on their exisiting features than doing this. I mean did we really need an IOS 6? IOS 5 seemed to be ticking along ok, bugs still existed so why not focus on these.

Well at least we can take some comfort in the fact that we all seem to have same issues. I swear if one us dealt with apple support they would swear blind it's a problem with our network / router or installation. We'd all be sitting there doing pointless resets / restores / router recycles trying to fix a problem that is all down to IOS 6. I know in a beta environment they can't cover or test every single possible combination of things but surely home sharing is quite a big selling point of the whole iTunes / iPhone package. This really should of been better handled. I guess there will be an IOS 6.01 at some point which may fix things. But then they will get cocky and ending up doing something that breaks it again in IOS 6.02 - I wish I'd let things be, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

I too absolutely expect Apple, and other tech companies, to give this kind of answers. It seems like we have the same sort of experiences in the past. By the way, I wasn't aware tha I downloaded a beta version? I just got an upgrade notification in iTunes yesterday and I didn't read anything about a beta version.

However, my iPad now runs smoother than before and with iOs 6! Huh?

What did I do?

Well, As I said I decided to downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 and followed the instructions I found on the iDownloadblog. I just did a regular restore of my iPad, not realizing that the last backup was from yesterday, àfter I installed iOS6. But now it turns out that home sharing works perfectly with the music app. Furthermore, it even improved: it's now displaying the correct album covers with each album! Before they got mixed up, which is a rather common problem I found out a couple of months ago while searching the web for it. Oh, by the way, in the artist tab of the music app, the artist names still are not displayed correctly. But I don't mind since I only use the album tab.

To finish off, I must add that I also installed another virus scanner today (symantec to Panda cloud). I can't imagine this interfering with AirPlay / music sharing (a firewall could affect the ports AirPlay uses, but a virus scanner??), but I just do not want to be incomplete in letting you know what changes I've made.

In the meanwhile I keep my fingers crossed every time I start the music app on my iPad ;-)

Cheers

I'm using iOS 6 on my iPhone 5 and I had the same issue, hence why I came here. Not sure what the screen looks like on the iPad, but if you go to the bottom of the "Music" screen, you have 5 options: "Playlists", "Artists", "Songs", "Albums" and "More"... select "More" and that will bring up more options...select "Shared" and change the selection to your library rather than "My iPhone" or I'm guessing "My iPad". The same can be done in the "Videos" screen. Hope this helps. It worked for me.

Having the same issue. Home Sharing is the single biggest feature I use, and its completely broken in ios 6.0. In many ways, I like some of what ios 6 has incorporated, but in many other ways it is a huge step backwards. I have an ip4, and get frequent crashes, Facebook integration is half baked (no tagging?!?), Maps lack accuracy, and it is slower. Really wish they had waited to release until they worked out the bugs. The home sharing is ridiculous though, many of these issues were fixed with ios 5 and and are broken again.
