Restoring the phone MAY NOT fix the battery problem. That was the case for me. It is not a definite fix and can create hours of work in rebuilding your phone and apps.

The only fix that seems to work for most folks so far is adjusting Location Services to turn OFF

    - Genius for Apps

    - Traffic

    - iAds

As well as turning off iCloud sync for Safari and possibly turning off Siri.

I would not consider trying a restore at this time unless the above do not provide any relief. This is clearly a software issue for some platforms that requires a fix.

    Regards,

    Rob

Updated to iO6 last night, full charge overnight.  Took the phone off the charger at 8am to leave for work.  Got to work 15 min later, 89%.  Now, less than 2 hours later, 63%, and only checked a few emails, took 1 phone call of 2 minutes.

Battery is properly maintained, same settings as with iO5.  Not apps running in the background.  In fact, I changed sme email and calender setting to manual fetch, thinking that may have been the issue.  Also rebooted.

    Update:

I restored the phone while wire connected to i Tunes, then restored settings and apps from iCloud from a few days prior. Did this on 9-21, and have had no battery issues, seems no better, no worse than with 5.1.1

In addition, I was contacted on Sunday by one of Appel's techs, based on my post here, who was trying to get additional info on the issue.

Why don't you take a cruise around the boards and learn something instead of demeaning someone who is genuinely looking for help, smart guy?    It is a big problem--can't remember a bigger one.

Apple is supposed to be the company that gets it done 100% right and doesn't push stuff out with major bugs.

Just to add my experience so far.

I work nights. I woke up a 17:00 GMT with 100%, it's now 20:55 and I have 38% left. I've listen to some music and watched a couple of videos on my 1 hour commute and played 5-10 minutes of Diamond Dash at work.

I have to carry my charger with me everywhere.

My experiance after upgrading to 6.0 is that my phone will die when the battery level gets to 35%, just shuts off like it is out of battery. I plug it in and get it to wake up and then the battery % is at 43% so there seems to still be an issue with the battery life. I had an issue with 5.0 when it first came out and after the updates/patches it was fixed so I'm looking forward to 6.1 update with a battery fix in it.

Who was this shot "smart guy" directed at?

I have confirmed that iCloud Safari Sync and Siri are contributing to my iOS 6 battery power loss as well as the other services I indicated earlier. Turning off Siri, I have been able to stretch battery power most of my day. It is now nearly 12 hours later and I have 42% power on my iPhone 4S.

I just wanted to pass that along in case anyone else wanted to give it a try.

To date, here is what I have done:

Turn off the following in Location Services:

    - Genius for Apps

    - Traffic

    - iAds

    Also turn off:

    - iCloud Safari Sync

    - Siri

FWIW, did the full reinstall of the OS and everything else on iPad2.  No improvement.  Battery life has gone from excellent to poor with the "upgrade" of iOS6.

Try doing a full reinstall of the OS and NOT everything else; do not restore your backup, as whatever is draining your battery is being backed up. If the battery is OK add your email and apps back as if they were new.

I do not recommend doing a full reinstall of the OS at all at this point. Many have tried this, including me, and for most, yields no improvement.

Try turning off the services indicated by many of us to help for now and wait for the iOS 6 update.

To date, here is what I have done:

Turn off the following in Location Services:

    - Genius for Apps

    - Traffic

    - iAds

    Also turn off:

    - iCloud Safari Sync

    - Siri

    FYI -

I have a iphone 4s whcih i got in May of this year - great fricking phone - lots of battery life - no problems - Upgraded to IOS 6 - 4 days later i could cook eggs on my iphone and it is worthless as the battery lasts for maybe 2.5 hours tops with NOTHING running in the background - forget about 20 minute phone conversations ....

Go to the apple store 3 different times ( this is a work phone and i travel quite lot) and they finally give me a replacement phone - guess what the new iphone 4s has the same problems.... I should have stopped them before the upgrade to ios6 - unplugged the iphone at 7 this am and by 11:30 had to have it plugged back in to charge- new frickin phone

If you have a late model iphone DO NOT upgrade to ios6 (IMO) wish i hadent as i now have a very expensive paperweight - useless to me on long trips in the car....

Oh wait - maybe that was Apple's idea - get me to pay money for a car charger too!

IOS 6 *****!  Fix this Apple. This is ridiculous. I want to downgrade back to 5.1 but you aren't giving us that option. Time to look at a Galaxy phone.

  • Abscate Level 1 Level 1 (45 points)

I upgraded both my work (4S Verizon) and personal 3G AT&T to IOS6

The 4S is at 93 % batter after 8 hours standby

The 3G is dead after same period, under 5%

Conclusion..properly implemented IO6 works as advertised wrt battery life.there do seem to be issues getting the upgrade installed cleanly however.

    Update this evening..

On advice from other threads I let the phone discharge to shutdown, then recharged to 100%.

After a full charge,  the battery on the 3G phone is still 100% after 2 hours of standby (disconnected from charger of course)

It looks like some sort of recalibration has solved the problem
