No 3D Flyover or Satellite View Outside U.S.?

Hi, I'm having trouble getting satellite view and 3D Flyovers to work on my iPhone 4S when trying to view U.S. cities such as San Francisco, Chicago or New York.

I think it has something to do with my phone's region settings, but I checked and everything I have is set to the United States or English in my international settings. My App store is also set to the U.S., and my phone is an unlocked phone from Singapore.

Basically, I'm living in Beijing and when I open the Maps application, it shows me China just fine including satellite view. When I try to zoom out in satellite, it will show me China in satellite but everything else surrounding it will be black.

When I visit another country on maps in standard view, it's fine, although it shows me both the Chinese and English names for locations on the map. When I switch to satellite view, all I get is black tiles and no 3D Flyover button for any of the supported cities.

Guys, I figured it out. It's a problem that is China specific.

Apparently, if you are in China, the Apple Maps app will draw maps using Autonavi rather than Tomtom, which means you don't get satellite or flyover for anything outside of China. Does anyone know how to toggle this on and off?
