iphone 3gs stuck in recovery mode?

My son tried updating his Iphone 3GS & it is now stuck in a recovery mode. Attempts to restore have failed. Can anyone offer suggestions?

I believe I just figured out a solution for my phone. I was wiping out an older iPhone 3gs and I kept going through the same loop of restoring the phone, and then seeing the same message when restore was complete.

My solution:

I unplugged the phone from iTunes, held down the top (power) button and the home button for about 10 seconds until the phone restarted (at which point it still had the plug-into-iTunes image), then I plugged the phone back into iTunes, did the restore one more time, and it now shows a "Welcome to your new iPhone" where you can restore from backup or set up as a new iPhone.

When your iPhone 3gs stuck in recovery mode, try to put your iPhone into dfu mode:

1. Plug your iPhone into the computer and then hold the home and lock buttons for 10 seconds

2. After the 10 seconds release the lock button and wait until iTunes says "iTunes has detected a device in recovery mode"

3. If your device shows the "connect to iTunes logo restart the dfu mode process because it is in recovery mode

This may take a couple of attempts, learn more from: http://www.recovery-android.com/get-iphone-out-of-recovery-mode.html
