bluetooth music issues after iOS6 update

Ok, i just updated to iOS6 today. I jump in my car to drive home, and now my radio ( pioneer svh-p3400BH) no longer shows any sont info when bluetooth streaming. I used to get artist, album, and song info. Also, when i connect it via USB, i no longer get genra infr ( pop/rock, classical, ect).

Any ideas? if this a firmware on Pioneers side, or is the blue tooth messed up in iOS6?

Nothing I said contradicts your statment. They are just saying they don't know if there is anything about the iPhone 5 that might be incompatible, regardless of iOS 6 updates, because the iPhone 5 is new and they don't get that particular hardware until after release.

It's true that they could and should have tested the iOS 6 update when it become available, on iPhone 4S. Unfortunately, I didn't think to ask if it is traditional to test new OS updates or not. That would have been a good answer to know. I'm too lazy to call back and wait on the line now.

The point is, they aware of some incompatibility between iOS 6 and their HandsFree Link, and they will also be testing the iPhone 5 specifically in November.

I made sure to mention that my other iDevices worked fine in iOS 5 and *also* broke with the iOS 6 update, for whatever that counts for.

Personally I don't think we should be blaming the car audio companies. everything was working fine. IOS 6 came out and things fell over. Regardless of who is actually at fault for the incompatibility, it was IOS 6 that triggered the failure. Time moves on and things change, progress makes its own incompatibilities ,windows on a pc for example, or new hardware not working with new games. But bluetooth on the iphone has always been berated for its lack of facilities from day one, For something that many of us use regularly (bluetooth) to be tweaked/changed/altered/upgraded or whatever other term you prefer, only to then screw up something important (to us) is careless. I know that Apple cannot check every device out there, but the fact that AVRCP has been kicked in the nuts must have shown some clue somewhere in the developers minds, if not on the test devices they used. How hard can it be to check what devices use AVRCP then ask around a few to see if it will cause trouble rather than just go ahead and release the new stuff and find out later that it screwed the pooch.

I cant blame Pioneer for what IOS 6 did. When I bought the head unit it worked flawlessly with the iphone 4 on ios5.1.1

I upgraded my phone to a 5 and obviously got IOS 6. The new phone and IOS doesn't work with the pioneer. It can't be Pioneers fault that an operating system and phone that didn't exist when the head unit was built is now incompatible. well, it could be their fault, but to my mind, IOS 6 broke the connection. If it was (as has been said here) a bluetooth firmware upgrade, then we should at least have an option to go back to something that works. Even if the audio manufacturers do firmware updates for their devices, there will be a lot of disappointed people out there as not everyone has the nerve or ability to upgrade firmware. Whereas Apple DO have the ability to correct the issue for all those affected now and for those who would be affected in the forseeable future.

Took me fifteen minutes to have working AVRCP on my one-x.

The reason for me returning the phone was NOT the fact AVRCP wasn't working on my iphone 5, the problem was that apple did not give us a time frame it would be corrected. If I would have waited past the 30 day window from AT&T for returns, I would have been stuck. What happenes if apple never fixes the problem? I now have beautiful streaming data on my head unit via blue tooth, and I once again have control over the phone's audio output via my steering wheel... Sadly, my fix involved leaving apple.

It is not right for me to go into details about the pro's of switching to non-apple devices on apple's website, but I will say this, even if you are a die-hard fanboi, try one out. You might be surprised. Plus, my battery is sitting at 83% right now... That is about 40% more than my iphone 5 has even been at this time of the day.

iOS 6.0.1 was likely never what we were looking for anyway.

While people with Pioneer, aftermarket radios might get an update, there are a vast number of people who just have their OEM equipment that has ceased to function. I'm sure a good bit of them honestly don't care who's fault it is, they just want their stuff to work. Further, they know it worked before, and it doesn't now, and they are going to be (or already are) huffing in Apple's direction, not their bluetooth OEM.

Apple would do well to put back whatever they changed because it seems to me there are for more people that are going to be in the SOL camp than there are that will be in the camp that sees an update from their device manufacturer.

What I'm saying is, even if it isn't Apple that messed up, if they have the capability to fix it with a software update, they should probably do that. I believe someone already posted that historically Apple hasn't done this, but this time, I hope they do. It's just much easier (and saves face) if they fix everyone's problem with a software update, rather than depend on device manufacturers (who will traditionally say EFF-YOO to their users). The average person isn't going to say, "It worked before, and now it doesn't, it must be my device OEM that messed up." They are going to place the blame on Apple and the update, whether that is true or not.

It's a fact that multiple 3rd party bluetooth devices were affected by this. I find it insulting that Apple would release an update that doesn't fix the issue. Their sucky maps app gets all the press, but this is still relatively unknown. The respect I once had for Apple is eroding quickly. Being completely silent about it is unacceptable to me. Customer satisfaction: 0.

This is what i strange to me. Supposedly, we all had working bluetooth with our different car units prior ios. Then we upgrade to 6.0 or 5.0.1 and now there are problems, except my Acura, and two Motorola car bluetooth. My Motorola car bluetooth has the oldest HF profile, yet it works perfect with my iphone 5. I wonder what changed in OP units. Do different manufactures use different HF Profiles, or is there suppose to be a standard? The iphone with ios 6 supposedly uses a new profile HF4 which is suppose to be backward compatible, which it is in my case.

I agree. I am such a fan of Apple--spending more on Apple products than any other company, hands down. And I find this just beyond absurd. (Aaaaand the whole Google maps BS too) --But wanted to pipe back in that the brand new Alpine CDE-HD138BT is insanely hard to use withe the iPhone now....but not if you're still running IOS 5! Ridiculous. It's obviously an Apple issue as it's affected so many different head units.

It would be nice if instead of having the Bluetooth 'upgrade' forced upon us in the IOS6 packages, we could perhaps have an option to have either the newer standard OR the older standard rather than just the one we now have to use.

If the JB users can arm and disarm bluetooth stacks at will, why can't apple give us a similar option. That way, those of us that used the older standard with NO ISSUES, could get things working again, while those who had no problems or needs for the older standard could use the newer firmware.

I would happily sacrifice the new abilities of the standard in order to have my phone and in car equipment speak to each other properly like they did before IOS6.

6.01 proved that Apple were unrepentant and had moved forward at the expense of those customers who are having trouble. Leaving it to the ICE manufacturers to sort the problem out is bordering on an insult to all those who have bought an iPhone 5, or upgraded previous devices to IOS6+

My loyalty to the brand has been severely dented. couple that with the speed they released the ipad 4 after the 'new ipad' (a stupid name, why not call it the ipad 3?), and suddenly they seem to be rushing things out without any care for those buying their equipment.

Does anyone from Apple actually monitor and comment on these posts or is it just for complaining in vain ??? I have just fitted a pioneer deh 8400bt head unit to my car, I'm using an iPhone 5 with it for audio streaming and it sends the audio ok. Like most posts the only thing displayed on the screen is the name of the phone connected and all selections have to be via the handset. It would appear that prior to iOS 6 the unit would receive track information etc and skip/rewind could be done from the head unit.

A couple of weeks ago I fitted a Sony Bluetooth head unit to my wife's car and all functions work on this no bother with her iphone 5 to the extent that she has her steering colum controls and everything. The Sony radio was actually cheaper but I fancied the pioneer as it had 2 USB inputs at the rear to hide the wiring etc.

I didn't have time to read through all 37 pages of this thread and was just wondering if anyone from Apple ever comments or acknowledges these issues

Re computables comment of :-

Ever since Jobs died Apple only cares about making money. In the coming years the quality of Apple product will go down hill IMO. I can't drive and change songs on my brand new but before IO6 car stereo, this is a safety issue. Device manufactures that complied to the "Made for iPhone/ iPod" program should sue Apple for breach of contract.

Couldn't agree more.

Add in the fact I have actively talked people out of buying iPhones of late for he very reasons stated here.

The iPhone 5 is no great leap over the iPhone 4. It is better in a lot of ways, but not groundbreaking.

The lack of help/input/interest related to the Bluetooth issue shows that Apple really do not care about it. It doesn't affect everyone so why even respond?

In many ways the loss of Steve boy may have been at the right time as I for one feel hat Apple are heading for a fall and are already on the slippery slope.

We, the customers, are the people who often rave about how good the hardware is. Advertising only goes so far. If it were not for me and one very young member of the family, not one family member wold have an apple device. So the 4 iPads, multitude of iPods, 3 iPhone 4's and one iPhone 5 owe their ownership to me, not apples advertising.

None of the 4 owners are moving up to a 5. They ask what it's like and I give honest answers.

The sooner somebody at apple realises that ANY problem affecting users after THEIR update to the software, is going to be seen as their fault, and even if it isn't their fault, the problem itself sits there EVERY SINGLE DAY reminding them that something that once worked now doesn't.

I would happily have bou4ht a 4s running IOS 5 over the iPhone 5 running iOS 6 had i known what apple were going to do. The ONLY reason I have held out for the problem being fixed is because I hope pioneer pull their finger out and fix my particular hardware set up, but I still have an iPhone 4 as well as my 5. If the worst comes to the worst I will eBay the 5 and consider my options after fully looking into what will work for me. If I end up having to do that to get my steering wheel controls back, then my time with apple is coming to an end. It will be android.

The only loss is any apps I have purchased and the cloud, along with the app store. But for me? Most of the stuff is just for fun, while the steering wheel controls are both safety related and were always used every day.

I feel for all those affected, those who updated an older device that used to work, only to find it no longer does. Those who bought a new device and had the problem forced upon them. But I am especially annoyed that somebody at apple has started to cut the iOS signing time of older software to such a short time. If nothing else

hey should allow older users to roll back to ios 5x.

All in all, I find apple disappointing in their handling (or lack of handling) this issue.

Maybe everyone should write to watchdog instead and see about getting the issue recognised. Maybe somebody in

he apple hierarchy will then think about their customers rather than sticking their heads in the sand and ignoring it altogether.

I have gotten used to not having he steering wheel controls now, but it hasn't stopped me being massively ticked off and constantly reminded it isn't there wheneveri get in the car.

Time is ticking. After all, if hey don't fix it before I jump, that's a minimum of one family (who always follow my lead as I am their tech support) who will be leaving the fold. Not to mention a few friends who also ask advice.

That large screen on the Samsung starts to look better every day
