Q: bluetooth music issues after iOS6 update

Ok, i just updated to iOS6 today.  I jump in my car to drive home, and now my radio ( pioneer svh-p3400BH) no longer shows any sont info when bluetooth streaming.  I used to get artist, album, and song info.   Also, when i connect it via USB, i no longer get genra infr ( pop/rock, classical, ect).

Any ideas?  if this a firmware on Pioneers side, or is the blue tooth messed up in iOS6?

I got no instructions from the unit.  Just said "error" at the end.

Anyway, no reason to risk screwing up your unit when there is a fix coming in a couple of months.

Any word on a fix for Alpine?  It was supposed to be released around Christmas.

The first time I did mine it hung on "updating". After about 5minutes I X out of the update screen, power cycled the head unit and tried again. make sure you clear the bluetooth memory each time. Worked in about 30 seconds on second attempt and works flawlessly.

Whomever was concerned about radio frequency bands above, all this firmware is for is bluetooth.

I did all that.  Tried 2x.  I got error both times.  Like I said, the file transfers fine.  But the unit won't use the update.  I even tried placing it into the Update directory directly via my computer, and that also gave an error.  At this point, probably safer to wait for the new firmware, since it will probably fix other stuff too.

Did you follow the instructions for the dongle?

I used a my macbook so the "Built in" instructions didnt work for me. With the source off go to home/system/bluetooth update, then upload the file. The radio will say waiting for update or something like that until it is uploaded.

Sorry if it doesnt work for you maybe I just got lucky. I am glad to have it back to normal.

I only tried via using the Mac.  I guess I will try one more time via the dongle.

4th time is the charm I guess.  Used a bluetooth USB on my old laptop with Windows XP.  The 1st time using this method, the Pioneer unit got hung up (more than 10 minutes).  Tried it again, and it finally worked!  The unit will say "Updating".  When it worked it only took less than a minute, and said "Completed".

Now I get autoconnect, and the unit will display the song information.  Unlike the previously when I basically had to start playing the song via iPhone and the unit couldn't read the song info.

Thanks to concreteBAMF for the help!

    Pioneer DEH 6400 BT

    IPhone 5  on IOS 6.01

Just did the update, took a fair while for me as it failed a few times. Paid off in the end though. Music controls are back on the steering wheel and auto start has returned.

HU kept saying waiting but file never went. Finally got he 2 to speak but the file transfer failed at around one third the way. Did it again and got same result, though HU still said waiting. One occasion it started but

hen HU said 'error' and file failed.

On the last attempt the head unit finally said 'updating' and the file got to the end before the pc again said the file had failed to transfer, but I left the HU alone and it finally said 'completed'. Looked over to he laptop that was still saying the file had failed and fingers crossed I turned the HU off and on before trying the iPhone with it.

Trying to pair through the iPhones old pair was a no go (I only tried it to see if it would work but didn't expect it to).

Told iPhone to forget the connection and repaired.

I now have auto start back, and steering wheel controls are back as well so skipping forward and back is now a lot safer than it has been since iOS 6 broke it. No metadata, so no track list info, but I don't care about that, it would have been nice to have tracklist info, but functionality is more important and I am just glad to have control of the music on my phone through the steering wheel controls again.

I still think apple suck, but kudos to pioneer for fixing things.

Has anyone tried using the firmware update on other AVH models that weren't listed for it?  Those listed were 2400BT, 4400BT, and 8400BT.

I had the same issues with the DEH-6400BT. It failed the first few times, but just keep trying. Each time clearing the Memory. It will eventually work

I have just update my AVH-8400BT with my Mac Book (Lion).

    The procedure is simple.

First, I have clear bluetooth memory, than "pair" Mac Book with Pioneer and browse in your head unit. Activate the "software upgrade mode" in your head unit and drag and drop the file .plf in folder "update". It should automatically start updating and in one minute displaying "Completed".

Upgrading works, now I can view the metedata (artist, title, ecc) on my unit display, and the controls for change song.

But very sh****t, I can't ever browse the songs in my iPhone library and now I can't see the playlists. Before with iOS 5 was possible.

Also the time bar doesn't works fine.

Consideration about Pioneer: I think this update is bad made, it's not completely and doesn't work fine. It's not possible, my AVH-8400BT is the last model "top de gamme" and I find many problems. I think also that we have waiting so many time for this half-update. Not good for Pioneer, the next time I think to purchase an other brand.

    (Sorry my english)

For anyone who wants to spend more money - the latest Pioneer models that are out appear to work perfectly with iOS6.  I just picked up (traded in) a new DEH-X9500BHS and it auto-syncs, streams, skips, pauses, shows metadata and track length progress... pure awesomeness.  My bluetooth firmware ends with .27.20 - so perhaps it is the same firmware?

Either case - I wanted to relay that there is hope!  If Pioneer has it in their new headunits - they most likely know how to get the software working properly for their older ones.  I'm sure it's right around the corner.

Yeah just updated my avh 2600bt and its back to normal... I think the lesson learnt here is actually more beta testing from 3rd parties required.
