Its not carrier related at all. If you google it, you'll see that many, many people are having this issue with ios 6... I have a contracted AT&T iphone 5 and guess what? No MMS to anyone other than other iphone users. Sprint is having the issue, T-Mobile as well. This was a bug seen in a previous beta of ios 6, which is why it's so funny that Apple is not owning up to it. It's apparently (or at least was in the beta) a problem with the APN profile, of which most of us don't have access, to fix. So, while not every user is experiencing it (nor did they in the beta), MANY, across several different carriers, ARE.

Since day one after installing the iOS6 on my iPhone 4 device I've noticed the following problems:

    1. no picture messaging or receiving

    2. No group messaging or receiving

    3. unable to send or receive "share contact"

Bottom line - MMS service is screwed up.

I use AT&T, but as was stated above have friends that experience this pleasant occurrence all other the place.

I went to three APPLE stores to their "genius" that have never heard about that and didn't have a clue how to fix that.

Turning the MMS service on and off that they've tried (REALLY?) of course didn't help.

All three of them said wait till they fix the iOS6 bugs cause there are so many...

I'm new to this forum and wonder WHY nobody from the richest company in the world "APPLE" would reply?!

    Sad.

My friend found out that you had to turn on cellular data to send MMS. I tried it and it worked!

    I hope this helped!

    Thank you for your reply.

Of course my cellular data is on.

I tried (with Apple store people) to "play around" with all possible settings.

    NO LUCK

How does the t mobile sim swap work?  I got a sim thru amazon.  I am a prepaid gophone iphone 4 on ios6 with a custom apn?  Somebody help?

  • holymacaroni92 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

ALEXGOPHONE THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I can't believe it worked. I actually tried the t mobile trick like 6 times. The first 5 were a fail and did not work.... because I wasn't doing it correctly. You are right, it must be very specific!

I have an iphone 4 unlocked with at&t go phone $25 a month plan....

The first couple of times I took out the ATT sim card, and put in the tmobile sim card that I cut into a micro sim by myself, I went to the new tab that now appeared only with the cellular tab and entered all the APN Settings you listed on page 11. Then I went to my home screen and took out the T mobile card and put in the AT&T card... not working!

I didn't realize that the APN Settings should be typed in while the ATT card is in the phone. So somehow after 5 times it clicked in my head. The t mobile sim card is only there to make the tab appear. Once you press the tab where it shows to type in all the customized settings, I immediately took out the tmobile card, put in the at&t card while that page was still open. Then with the at&t card I inputed all the settings and then went back to home screen, sent a random pic of my ceiling to my friend lol and it worked!!!! Thank you so much!

I hope everyone who had trouble with the tmobile sim card trick can try this method again, but like alexgophone said, it's very specific. The minute you put in your t mobile sim card, go to settings, general, cellular, then scroll down and see for the new tab called "cellular data network" or "cellular data network settings"... something like that. Press it. Then you will see a page where you can type in all the settings. Username, password, mmsc, mmsc password, etc. While that page is still open, TAKE OUT YOUR T MOBILE SIM CARD AND PUT IN YOUR AT&T GO PHONE SIM CARD, now while the at&t go phone sim card is physically back in your phone and your page is still open, type in all the APN Settings that alexphone has listed on PAGE 11 of this forum/thread. do not type anything under the Cellular Data or Internet... Just type in under the MMS settings on this page for username, password, APN, mmsc, mmsc proxy, etc. Under Cellular Data and Internet, for me at least while the AT&T sim card was finding service, it automatically put the word "phone" for username... don't delete it, just ignore it. Just type what alexgophone gave under the MMS portion of this page. Then just go back (cellular on the top left side of page) and keep going back until you hit the homescreen. Try send a pic message. Hopefully it will work.

Thanks for stating what you did wrong.  This will be helpful to me.

  • alexgophone Level 1 Level 1 (10 points)

    So glad it finally worked!!!!

The key is doing exactly what holymacaroni92 did!!!

I did enter the AT&T APN info under "data", though, just in case.  I did not leave it blank.

Don't know if this was necessary.

    Congrats and happy picture texting.

    (Ceiling pictures are cool!!!)

You need to read all the posts on this thread.

  • Denis_DC Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I'm apologize for my ignorance, but where I apply all those settings described on page 11?

Are those only on the unlocked iPhones?

I have at&t go phone (was t mobile user in the past).

Just couldn't fine where I should apply all those settings.

    Thank you guys!

I have the same issue, and I am using 4S.... I just got my phone about a month ago, and started experiencing this issue as soon as I upgraded to iOS 6...  It is not a carrier-related issue.

To apply the APN settings you need to get a tmobile sim. That procedure is in this thread.

It's all here. Here are the settings when you get to the correct screen.:

    APN: wap.cingular

    User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM

    Password: CINGULAR1 MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com

    MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com:80

MMS Max Size: 1048576  - don't need this

MMS UA Proof URL:  don't need this

Is there a way to pin this to the thread somehow????

    Alex
