After updating to iOS6, it is not possible to move the slider switch to the "ON" position to enable WiFi. Since WiFi is DISABLED, changing "join other networks", changing DHCP, changing DNS and clearing the Safari cache are not viable solutions to this problem. Rebooting the phone, doing a hard reset, etc. are not solving the problem either.

Same issue here and I actually consider a downgrade to 5.1.1
just posted the way i fixed that problem it may seem stupid but ; settings/general/software update; wait till it says software up to date , exit , go back in to settings/ wifi and it should work.
Your solution did not resolve this issue on my phone.
It neither solved the problem on my 4S.

Figured that the download wasn't complete till you seen the up to date status and it was trail and error . You're welcome .
I downloaded iOS 6 once more while using maintenance mode in iTunes and re-installed it twice since I thought that maybe my over-the-air file of iOS 6 was incomplete or somehow corrupt. However, the issue remains the same and now I am back to iOS 5.1.1. I could try to update once more from this version to iOS 6 but I feel like having wasted too much time already on this.
I just hope this "bug" will be too common to ignore for apple...

Yes, I was forced to set it up as a new phone always since I cannot access my iCloud backup without wi-fi ^^

I downgraded to IOS 5.1.1 and it came back. I then tried to upgrade again to IOS and this time wired (USB) and not like the orginal time which was OTA. Once again it didnt work. So it's definitely a IOS 6.0 problem and not the Wifi or Iphone problem as I recreate it each time I go to IOS 6.0 (Iphone 4S and upgrade via OTA and USB)

Downgrade to 5.11, that's how my problem was solved, after visitng Apple Authorised Centre.
