Upgrading from G3

Hello,

I FINALLY joined the rest of the century and bought a gently used 1 year old Imac G5. however I need to transfer info (specifically my address book from Entourage) from my 10 year old G3 which ran on OS 9.1. Am I going to fry either the new or the old computer once I connect them via firewire/usb? Wil they understand each other? And will the G5 be able to read the old files anyway?

thanks!

imac Mac OS X (10.4.6)

hi guys thanks so much for your input.

i think the problem is i do not have a working monitor on the g3. i have tried firewire target mode starting up from the g5--when i do i get the firewire symbol but no desktop or mouse or anything else. when i try target mode starting up the g3 holding the T key with g5 already on nothing happens--no g3 hd icon appears on the desktop or anywhere else....

Your post is a bit confusing. When you go into firewire target disk mode, you effectively turn your computer into a firewire drive. All you do is connect the computer to another computer via a firewire cable. So, if you start the G3 in target disk mode, just connnect it to your G5 and the disk from the g3 should appear on the G5 desktop.
