reusing bottom window as "new" - an EXTREMELY ANNOYING FEATURE in Safari

Scenario: you are writing into a text box (for half an hour). You have a window open with a Google advanced search page, under your current window. You need to search, you select the other window (from the menu bar) which becomes the top window and the one with the text box with the almost completed posting becomes the hidden window.

Google is set to "open results in a new window".

You click - and Safari makes the bottom window active, reusing it as "new window", wiping out 30 minutes of writing.

AAAAAARGH!

Is there any way to get rid of this ... ehm ... "feature"?

I checked out Firefox - it does create a new widow and leaves the bottom one alone.

Cube, 2 ibooks, Mac OS X (10.4.4)
