I cannot get the iOS6 maps to work in India. Has anyone else got through those?
I'm amazed/apalled that Apple would do such a thing. It is one thing to not have the bells and whistles (flyover, 3d, and all that) working internationally, but to take away the entire maps utility from my phone (that worked perfectly well in the last version) in an upgrade is completely unacceptable.
Please, fix this.

That is because the Maps feature is not available in India.

I'm talking of http://www.apple.com/ios/feature-availability/#maps-standard - which is expected to work in India.
Its bad enough that turn-by-turn and other stuff doesn't work, but being an Apple afficiando, I'm willing to give them time to bring this in later. But, even then, as a user, to have the standard features taken aways is absolutely apalling.
What happens when you try and go into Maps?
I see maps - but can't get directions between any 2 points. It just says, "Directions could not be found between these locations" I now see that by Apple's definition, "Standard" map features does not include directions.

And that list does not include India. If by "Standard" they mean, open up the map app and browse through it, that's a very low Standard to keep. That is such a disappointment. The first Apple upgrade I've regretted and that too very bitterly.

Yes, even i am facing the same issue. In case if they are not able to provide directions between 2 places then what is the use of maps. Right now apple maps in India can locate a place but cannot provide directions to that place. is there any chance apple is going to support that in near future. now i wont be apple to go back to IOS 5.1.1. will there be any chance of google releasing google maps app for IOS 6 similar to youtube.
Same issue with me. If not voice turn by turn direction but atleast apple could have kept the direction available for indian customers. It seems that many asian countries are left our from direction.
The map which now apple is using does not have any information about any city road and buildings. Seems apple have taken maps data from Tom Tom, which is not at all interested in asian countires.
Ultimately, googld rocks.

I am also facing same issue in here KSA. Apple disappoints the whole Asians and GCC customers...I regret for updating in to iOS 6..now thinking about to go back to iOS 5.1..😢
The upgrade is very interesting, I particularly like the feature where you can reject a call and it automatically sends an SMS to the person but I heavily relied on Google Maps for Directions. I just downloaded the google directions app but it is not as user friendly when it comes to determining the current location and providing directions from the current location, I will need to double check again to make sure.
However, I think I will backup and restore my phone and go back to ver. 5.1.1
I am very very disappointed I was really looking forward to the navigation feature. 😟

Apple is still allowing to restore back to IOS 5.1.1. IOS 6 is not that worth for iPhone 4 in India when compared to IOS 5.1.1. Apple will not be supporting directions to any 2 locations in India in the near future. If anyone is planning to restore back. Do it ASAP before apple closes restoring to IOS 5.1.1.

I am also having the same problem. I upgraded to iOS 6 a while ago. Most of the new features anyway dont work on iPhone 4, and on top of it many features wont work in India, even if I had an iPhone 5 (Thats another annoying problem - if Apple can focus so much on China, why not India?), and found out that the Apple Maps cant show me directions. That is the one major reason why most of us used the Google Maps on iOS - to find directions! I cant believe that Apple is not calling a basic feature like this a "Standard Maps feature".
As per this website (http://www.apple.com/ios/feature-availability/#maps-directions) even countries like Tanzania, Mozambique, Namibia, etc have Directions supported, but not India !!!
I definitely want to have iOS 6 on my iPhone 4, due to some useful features like Facebook integration, Do Not Disturb, etc, but have not found an alternative yet, for Apple Maps.
Guys have you found any alternatives for iOS 6 Apple Maps (without downgrading to iOS 5)
Apple, please fix this; I am an ardent Apple fan, and am also planning to buy iPhone 5 in the coming weeks.
I too figured it out that apple maps is useless in India after upgrade. I was aware of some other issues like local transit info etc missing, but this was a surprise. While I like the other options, this is a big issue. Also the maps don't have too much detail. its all shown as a dessert with roads in between with limited info on buildings and water bodies. A pretty big lake near my place is completely missing :(. i guess only option now is to use the google map through browser. Any one has any better option please suggest.

Its same issue for me , i miss maps app.. new one is coool but its not working any more...
atleast it should show routes between two location , i know turn-by-turn is not available in india.
I am still sticking to ios6 hoping they will release a fix or update soon. Till then its maps.google.com 😟 ..
i dont know why apple ignores india in every release, india is huge market with Samsung, Sony & HTC ruling market without competation from Apple 😟 ...
Ive found a temporary solution! 😀 its an app called G-wizz! its got all google features including maps. I know you can get the web app but it didnt work for me 😟. This app worked perfectly appart from satilite view. I hope this helps!
