Merge linked contacts in OS X 10.8.2

I have connected my FB account in 10.8.2 and i linked all my iCloud contacts with corresponding FB accounts. Now, on my mac, they are shown with full information, but, in fact, on iCloud it doesn't have any information from FB. They are just linked, but not merged. So how can i merge them to fill information from FB on my iPhone?

Facebook integration does not sync over iCloud, it happens locally on each device (Mac/iDevice) on which it has been enabled. Linking the FB & iCloud contacts on your Mac simply ensures that the OS X Contacts app (and other apps which access it) are treated and displayed as one person rather than two, but the FB & iCloud data is stored separately.

Update your iPhone to iOS 6 if you haven't already, and enable FB integration there too (Settings>General>Facebook) in order to have a similar contacts setup on your phone.

Nick LDN,

I have already updated to iOS 6 (iPhone and iPad) and OS X 10.8.2. I have enabled the FB integration on all 3 devices. But I have the same problem Kakysha described. The links made on the OS X don't sync to iOS 6 and vice versa. I know iCloud doesn't have a FB integration. It seems that I'll have to link all the contacts 3 times!

I had all my iCloud contacts synced. After connecting to FB on both devices, all the FB contacts showed up (which is good) and all the information on one device was exactly the same on the other. All had the same iCloud cards and the same FB cards. But when I link an iCloud card to a Facebook card on one device, the link is local. Is there any way to sync these links?

Thanks

Sadly not - as the integration is only local to each device, so is the linking. I think the reasoning behind that is simply to avoid the possibility of sync errors, i.e. when a FB contact is added, it may appear on one device before another and things could go a bit wrong quite quickly. Whilst some people will have quite a few cards to link, others won't, and I think the way it is is a safe and relatively trouble-free compromise...

Yes it would be really great if we could make that possible.

I have contacts on:

- MacBook Air

- iPhone 4

- Gmail

- Facebook

- iCloud

Whenever there are sync problems I always choose to have Gmail as master as I still at this stage prefer Gmail than any other service. So I suppose what is missing for me is for Gmail to make their contacts system better and more in sync with the systems Facebook and Apple have.

Hi,

Best solution I found is to unlink contacts and then do merge on Mac using Contacts. To do so select few same contacts and select "Merge cards" in "Card" menu at the top. Now you can sync contacts from Mac to iCloud and back to iPhone. Now all needed contacts merged without links anywhere.

For me the trick was that contact which is auto synced from FB on iPhone should be the first selected while merging. In other case next FB sync will add new contact near merged one, if name or lastname is spelled slightly differently. Probably it's only my problem, because in Russia we have different ways how to transliterate names into English so contacts synced from different systems like FB, Google or iCloud may be spelled differently.

Hope it'll help!
