X800 XT Radeon video card artifact

Hi,

I just purchased a used radeon X800 XT card, and when I installed it, there was all kinds of screen artifact.

It's version 1.09, and the PN is 109-A35803-00.

I read about the problems with these cards, but this wasn't the part number listed.

Any ideas on how this may be fixed, or do I need to return the card?

Hi,

Thanks for the offer, but I need the ADC port (so I can use that nice cinema display!).

I ended up finding another card, slightly cheaper, and it is on its way, along with a Zalman VF900-** Copper VGA Video Card Cooler. - This card got pretty hot in a short amount of time, so I want to make sure it stays as cool as possible...

I know that the big thumbscrews won't work to attach it, but I have a ton of screws available to try for a replacement! I'll also probably just connect the fan to the plug on the video card, unless anyone lets me know why that would be a bad idea!

Skorpan,

Well, I got another x800 xt, but when I opened it a capacitor and base fell out of the anti-static bag when I took the card out. It looks like someone tried to solder it back on with no luck. I can probably get it re-soldered back on since I've been working on electronics for years, but I'm just putting it away for now because I'm pretty unhappy.

I'm basically finished looking for a card at this point, since this is the second card I've purchased that is broken. Buyer beware, if you are lucky enough to get one of these, you may not be as lucky as you think...

Sorry about the card, I assume it was an original mac card? but you should send it back, there are some bad sellers out in e-bay land, but you should get your money back and wait until a good card comes along,

I do have an Original Mac ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB DVI / ADC Video Card pulled from an old G5 which, I think, is a better card than the 5200. Good hunting.

About twice as good in some actions, but not so in others:

It does, at least, support Core Image well enough that it isn't disabled (as the 5200) in Apple flagship video editing software.

Still, not near the card as compared to a 9800 or X800:

Thanks for the info!

Here's something funny that happened this morning.

I fix up PC's and donate them when I have time. I've had this particular Dell XPS sitting in my front room for about 2 years. I wasn't sure if I was going to donate it or fix it up and keep it. It had a note on it about the video card fan being bad - it still spins, but it howls while doing it. I pulled the card and here's what I found: "Radeon X850 PRO 256MB". If I decide to forefit the ADC port, or if I can find an adaptor for a reasonable price, is this card flashable to work on my Mac?

Second question - I have been looking with no success for a temp monitor for ATI Mac cards. Anything that I have tried does not register the GPU fan or temp.

Thanks for all of the help and ideas so far!
