Q: How do I resolve a failed download, "Use Purchases Page to download again"..

I'm on the Purchases page and trying to download iBomber Defense. It's not working for over a day. I'm running OS 10.8.2. 86MB of 96MB have already been downloaded.

There is nothing on the Launch Pad or in the Applications folder to delete. When I try again on the Purchases Page as the App Store requires, it starts the download at that 86MB mark and then immediately says the error again. I'm on the Purchases Page when it tells me this error, so it's ticking me off. I have no apparent resolution.

Does anyone know how to resolve an error like this? All of the fixes seems to say to delete the file that was partially downloaded but I can't find it anywhere so I'm lost on that. Any recommendations would be appreciated. It would seem to me be a problem with the App Store downloader as opposed to something the publisher can fix.

    Thanks all!!

My Mac go confused with ALL the dowlaods after SeaLion err Mavericks was installed, coupled with some of the apps were downloaded under as different AppleID - confusion rained and I had about 6 D/Ls stalled and wouldn't restart.  AppStore> Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads   didn't show anything

    Did all suggestions

    1:  open $TMPDIR/../C  and deleted com.apple.appstore

    2: cleaned up "/Library/Updates/"

    then restarted

Logged out of AppStore and logged in and D/Led ONE at a time to see which mucked up.

Needless to say, none did -now all sweetness & light

I just upgraded to Yosemite from 10.9 Mavericks and experience this issue.

I've tried everything from removing the cache to signing out of my account to deleting the preferences to trying it in safe mode and no go.

Does someone have an insight and can guide me in the right direction?

For me, I believe the issue is with kext signing, a security requirement that Apple introduced in OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

I have a Samsung EVO SSD (Solid State Drive) and to turn on TRIM support, one has to use an application called TRIM Enabler. In order to enable TRIM support in OS X 10.10, you have to turn kext signing off which I believe causes that error in the Mac App Store.

Before I disabled kext signing, the Mac App Store worked and I could download purchased apps fine. After I disabled kext signing to enable TRIM Support for my SSD, I got the dreaded message saying

Found (App name) failed to download

use the purchases page to try again

It's not a huge deal for me (I wish I could get around it) as I don't download from the Mac App Store often but If I need to, I can always login to my account on

the Mac App Store on an iMac and download the said app and then copy it on to a flash drive to put on my MacBook Pro.

klwinfr, do you have an SSD in your Mac?

    Hope this helps.

    Update: 5/17/15

I decided to reinstall OS X 10.10 Yosemite but instead of reinstalling it via Recovery mode or downloading it from the Mac App Store, which I did  to upgrade from OS X 10.9 Mavericks, I decided to use my flash drive installation of OS X 10.10 Yosemite. I updated to 10.10.3 via the updates tab of the Mac App Store. I then enabled TRIM support on my internal SSD and I am able to download purchases from the Mac App Store Purchases tab with no issues.

I tested along the way to see if I could download a purchased app from the Mac App Store to see if anything I did caused any issues. If all went well, I continued onto the next steps, disabling kext signing (TRIM Enabler), reverting back to iTunes 11.4 from version 12 (not a fan of the new interface of version 12) and then updating to OS X 10.10.3.

Reinstalling OS X Yosemite from my flash drive did not alter my files at all.

In summary, I recommend you try reinstalling (don't forget to back up your data first) OS X 10.10 Yosemite either by downloading it from the Mac App Store or boot from a copy of OS X 10.10 Yosemite on a flash drive.

If you have an SSD, you can enable TRIM support (disabling kext signing) via TRIM enabler after updating to 10.10.3 via the Mac App Store Updates tab.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

    I hope this helps.

Here's a thought out of left field: For the App Store to work properly (under Yosemite, at least), you have to have iTunes 11 or 12 on your computer. Downgrading iTunes to 10.7 breaks the App Store.

    Daniel,

That is a very good point.

I chatted with Apple and they told me that iTunes and the App store use separate accounts so according to them downgrading to iTunes 11.4 shouldn't break anything with the Mac App Store but according to your post, I have a second opinion.

I'll try downloading iTunes 12 from the updates tab of the Mac App Store and then downgrade to iTunes 11.4.

I noticed that having a copy of iTunes 12 on my machine, I was able to download from the purchases tab without issues but when I emptied my trash with iTunes 12, I got the error message saying

Found (App name) failed to download

use the purchases page to try again

I'll report back with an update.

In my experience, the App Store did not work when I was using iTunes 10.7 but began working again when I installed 11.4. So I have been able to avoid having to use iTunes 12, which I found to be dreadful. If you do want to install version 11.4, I suggest following these instructions.

    Daniel,

    Here is the update.

I downloaded iTunes 12 (the latest version) from the Mac App Store and rebooted my Mac. Somehow it enabled kext-signing so I got the gray screen with the stop sign.

    prohibitory_sign.png

I followed the instructions TRIM in Yosemite to recover from the stop sign on boot by restarting into Recovery mode.

Once It was fixed, I tried to download a purchased app and it worked. I then downgraded to iTunes 11.4 using the Macword article and tried another app from the purchases tab of the Mac App Store and that too worked. So far so good

I rebooted my Mac and it booted fine. When I went to download a purchased app, I got the message

    Untitled.png

Found (App name) failed to download

use the purchases page to try again

In summary, it looks like the issue is with iTunes 12 and the Mac App Store and if you downgrade iTunes to version 11.4, the connection breaks between the Mac App Store. It's not a big deal as I can still download updates from the Mac App Store and I'm pretty sure I can download an app If I decide to purchase or get a free one from the app page but not from the Purchases tab. I don't use the Mac App Store that often so it doesn't bother me and yes, iTunes 12 is dreadful.

I am running Yosemite 10.10.3, iTunes 11.4, and the App Store is working fine for me. So I'm afraid that your conclusion about iTunes 11.4 is not correct. It sounds like iTunes 11.4 is definitely part of the problem but there's got to be something else going on as well. Otherwise, I don't know how to explain why the App Store is working for me with iTunes 11.4 but not for you.

    Daniel,

Interesting. I guess Apple was right that iTunes and the Mac App Store are separate accounts and that downgrading shouldn't affect the Mac App Store. I'll have to dig around some more to find out what's going on.

It's good to know that the Mac App Store works for you on Yosemite 10.010.3 and iTunes 11.4 but I'm stumped on why it's not working here.

If you come up with any solutions or have suggestions, I'm open.

I don't use Trim Enabler so it's possible that it is the critical difference between our systems. Maybe try uninstalling Trim Enabler and see if that makes the difference. You might have to go through with the whole business of reinstalling iTunes 12 and then replacing it with 11.4 again.

The only other thing I can think of is that after reinstalling iTunes 12 I deleted every file and folder I could find with "appstore" in the title in the Library folders and in /private/var/folders/, confirmed that the App Store was working, and only then replaced iTunes 12 with iTunes 11.4. Maybe you missed one problematic file or folder?
