Q: Trackpad is sometimes not working on MBP after OS X 10.8.2 upgrade

MacBook Pro early 2011 15"

After I updated my Mac last night, the trackpad randomly stops working for no reason. Clicking the trackpad a few times seems to wake it up after a few sec. But it's really annoying when you try to work on the computer..

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

if you have TimeMachine do it before upgrade to 10.8.2, try leave with out doing nothing for 30-60 minutes and see if keyboard and trackpad wakeup again, anothe thing check if you press a key and keep presign for around 30 sec if it appears,

Hi ! So I use CMD+R at startup, format the disk, shutdown the mac. CMD+R to force recovery partition to re-download via the web. Install and perfect !

I agree with rockerium's jugement. After downgrade to 10.7.2, MBP EFI Update 2.5 doesn't work. And after update to 10.7.5 , trackpad seem's better now except dragging. But MBP EFI Update 2.9 still doesn't accept this OS version, maybe the EFI was confused by 10.8.2. Has any one tried to use MBP EFI Upadate 2.9 to fix trackpad crazy problem based on 10.8.2 or 10.8.3? Does it work?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237

After read this guide, I tried EFI 2.7 witch is proper for my MBP, it show me that it's not supported on my system.

Thank God, It seems OK now, maybe 10.7.5 update correct the trackpad and keyboard problem. But I need to watch it for further performence. I suggest any one meet this situation try my action. Downgrade to 10.7.2, then update to 10.7.5.

I have found that I get these:

    5/10/13 11:32:19.000 AM kernel[0]: AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_deviceGetReport - DeviceRequest for reportID 0x0 returned with result 0xe000404f - retrying

After plugging in my HTC One and using the HTC Sync Manager software which uses the adb device drivers. For those having this problem, are you using an Android phone as well?

Yes! I'm having the same Issue (MB Pro Early 11, latest Lion). And I'm also thinking, this issue is caused by an android driver. Since I have a Sony Xperia Z, there is this delay. Does anybody know how to handle this?

Very strange, my 3rd MBP in more than 7 years and the first time I've had a problem of any consequence...until this

MBP Early 2011, 10.6.8...I noticed on the 27th that I received a battery notification that I needed to replace the battery soon...It was around the same time that the trackpad started going loopy and acting on a mind of it's own...Can't be a coincidence I figured.

Anyway, replaced the battery on Thursday AM at the Apple store and the Genius guys feigned ignorance about the trackpad problem other than suggesting I reformat.

Got home and after a full charge or whether using it with the AC adapter, the tracpad issues continue

Researched a bit and see many experience the same issue and yet I haven't come across a real solution.

On a side note, it's deplorable business practice from Apple to feign ignorance on this issue let alone come up with a work around...Makes me think it has to be a design/hardware issue

Interesting that someone mentions Android compatibility issues with a driver as I too have an Android but haven't had any software or driver changes in many months - seems unlikely to be the culprit, I wager

BTW, took me triple the time to type this out as my trackpad was fighting/erasing along the way...It's like my infant son is interfering with my typing...Really frustrating
