why can I not send email when away from my home wifi? Am able to receive messages OK, and outgoing mailserver is correct?

Why am I unable to send email when away from my home wifi ? I am able to receive mail OK, and have double- checked the outgoing server which is correct. This problem is consistent with my Macbook Pro, iPhone, and iPad2.

Attempts to send messages results in them sitting in the Outbox and never- ending 'sending message' displayed.

I am able to send using my me.com server.

Home service provider is Cogeco.

Any help would be appreciated.

iPad 2, iOS 6, Cogeco is service provider

I've read that cogeco has not setup their network to send email from mobile devices setup with mail accounts.

If your service provider is Rogers, try this on your outgoing mail setup.

smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com

(Under advance tab)

SSL off

AUTHENTICATION password

SERVER PORT 110

I can send mail from wireless and 3G network with this setting. Unfortunately, if you are not with Rogers, I have no idea

Hope it helps

Hi,

Us too .... same thing with Cogeco -- iphone will not send email on wifi -- it receives ok, but will not send.

iphone cellular is with Bell Mobility (Canada) and email is Cogeco. Everything is set up fine and everything else works fine. Just can't send emails if wifi on iphone is "on". Its a real pain to have to remember to turn off the wifi before sending email ....

Has anyone on cogeco been able to send with wifi? Is there a work around?

Thanks

I had the same problem. I believe it's due to the outgoing server. When you send emails, it uses the current internet router. (Home wireless or outside cellular network)

I found I used my iphone service provider settings and turned off wireless when at home. That way you're always using the same server for sending emails and don't have to change the settings everytime you're at home using the wireless. I'm sure there might be a better way but this is the best quick fix I've found. I don't know why it only applies to sending emails and not receiving.

Hope this helps.

If you need, I could help with the server set up, I just need some details,

Who is your iphone service provider? and where are you in the world?

There is another option. You can set up another mail account on your phone. Keep the same details for everything except your SMTP settings. Set up one mail account with your smtp outgoing server for Cogeco and your other with the smtp settings for your iphone provider. Then when you're at home and you click on your mail app, you will have the option to choose between your two accounts.

I think this may be the only way at this stage to get around the problem.

Let me know if you need more details
