Unable to connect to Internet via an ethernet.

Hi there,

I have just moved into university halls, where the internet is provided through an ethernet connection - supposedly you can jsut plug in your cable and go, this is how it was for me last year too, with no problems. Yesterday, I plugged in for the first time, everything okay, then later I found that I couldn't connect to the internet. I know of several other people who have also had trouble connecting with a mac by the ethernet, so I'm assuming there is some problem with the settings on a mac - because my flatmate who has a windows PC is having no problems.

(Oddly, I could connect again, briefly, then the internet "went" again)

I have tried using the diagnostistcs, assistant, rebooting, etc - everything I can see suggested when I search the web using the internet on campus (this does seem to be a common problem from what I can tell...)

When I open the diagnostics to view the network status, I see green next to all the ethernet, isp, network settings, etc, but Internet and Server have yellow next to them.

Any ideas? 😕

Well, it is working now, what I did was change the IPv4 configuration to Bootp (from DHCP). I have no idea why this worked, as when it was working yesterday, I was using DHCP, and then later today it stopped working with Bootp and I switched it to DHCP and it started working. Utterly confused, but if I'm getting on the Internet I'm happy!

Thanks anyway for taking the time to answer, much appreciated. 🙂
