2011 Macbook Pro suffering Kernel Panics at boot after 10.7.5 update

Hi,

It appears this is now a known fault, I am assuming it is a software based issue as no hardware changes have been made but have yet to track down the source.

Directly after the reboot post 10.7.5 update, the machine boots directly into a Kernel Panic. It happens before a panic log can be generated so there are no clues there.

The machine will Safe Boot (with a SHIFT) but will not boot normally.

I have attempted to download and install the combo update to no avail, the 10.7.4 combo will obviously not over install as it is now a newer version.

I have run a Disk Repair and Permission repair as well as a "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs".

I am desperate to get the machine running and am currently making an additional "old school" backup of the internal HDD in it's entirety as my Time Machine drive is not mounting. Lovely.

If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

Thanking you in advance,

Dean

Nothing to solve your immediate problem as I am scaning all posts on 10.7.5 troubles before updating from 10.7.4.

I always wait a week or so to see how the new updates are going before taking the leap. I'll wait till the 10.8.3 update before considering Mtn Lion.

Time Machine is a mixed blessing as when it works it is wonderful but otherwise is very frustrating. In addition to TM I always keep a current bootable clone on a separate drive just for conditions such as you are experiencing. This is my first choice for backup as you can startup with the clone regardless of how messed up the internal HDD has become and reverse clone to restore to as before.

I'm new here so here goes. I've been on 10.7.4 since it was released and have had numerous kernel panics..( non before) at various times and applications. In the KP report my 3G modem is identified as the problem. I google the error code and i'm not alone with the modem/osx software conflict. I've carried out all the Apple fix suggestions and all checks out ok. I had read a while ago that 10.7.5 was coming out and was sure that it would do the trick. I downloaded it last night and expect the KP issue solved. Your situation is quite different than mine.

Surely Apple see's all the KP reports sent.

I have a mid-2009 MBP. It had 10.7.4 installed. Then I saw the update for 10.7.5 and I downloaded the combo update as I have been burnt in the past. When I updated using the combo update, I got kernel panics. Now it only boots up in safe mode.

I have tried updating to 10.8 (something that I did not plan on doing) and I am still getting kernel panics. I cannot use my computer unless I boot into safe mode. I feel like I just wasted $20.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please read my post above on cloning and consider doing this when you get your system running perfectly again.

You will never regret having a bootable clone to correct upgrade FUBARs (fouled up beyond all repair).

Welcome to the new Apple without Steve Jobs. Apple has so many irons in the fire it has become a "Jack Of All Trades And Master Of None".

I was on this thread in September having KP's in 10.7.4... continuously. I tried every suggestion to solve the issue to no avail. Yet, updating to 10.7.5 two months ago has sorted the KP's out. None since then, where other people's KP's started with 10.7.5 and ML.

In 10.7.4, every KP report indicated Novamedia as the source ( 3G modem ). I swoped the modem and updated is software, which did not help. I noticed in the details of the 10.7.5 update that an issue with the machines USB ports was fixed. I guess thats what sorted my mac out.

Having really searched the blogs to find a solution i come to the conclusion that there isnt one fix for the KP's.

There seem to be numerous triggers and that from 10.7.4 on, the software is very sensitive to 3rd party apps, because looking at every KP report people have shared on the blogs, a 3rd party app is listed.( directly after *loaded kexts*)
