Q: Problem: I'm not getting Facebook notifications

Hi

This is my first post on this forum.

I was waiting for yesterdays OS X Mountain Lion udpate, so I could finally get Facebook notifications delivered to the Notification Center in OS X. Unfortunately, I'm not receiving any of them after the 10.8.2 update. Could anyone help me with this?

I suspect that the problem may be connected with the OS X Facebook Developer Preview I've installed a couple of weeks before. Wanted to test it. The sharing to Facebook option in various applications was working fine. I was also able to post to Facebook straight from the Notification Center, but there were no notifications. I thought that it was normal, as probably the notifications would be enabled once the whole system was updated.

So I've downloaded and installed the 10.8.2 update via Mac App Store. Everything went fine, but the are still no FB notifications. I thought that maybe the problem was because of the Facebook developer preview I installed before. I've searched the web to find a way to uninstall it and I've managed to do that (using CleanMyMac). When I removed the preview I got rid of Facebook from the System Preferences (I couldn't re-add an account), but the account was still enabled as I was able to post from Notification Center and I had the Facebook friends list in the Address Book. So I decided to download the OS X 10.8.2 Combo update and istall it. After I've restarted my Mac I had all the Facebook settings back in the System Preferences, but still I'm not getting any notifications.

Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong?

I have an iMac mid-2007. Notifications from other applications are working fine, there is a problem only with Facebook.

Thanks for help

Regards,

Kornel

FB notifications seem to be very intermittent today, where previously they were coming thru just fine. Given that they have to come from FB, I'd imagine it's something they're aware of and working on.

    Thanks for the reply.

I forgot to mention that yesterday, after the combo installation, I received in fact one single Facebook notification (it was late at night) so I considered that the issue has been solved. But when I woke up this morning and checked the Notification Center and then the Facebook website, the issue occured again (I had a notification on Faceebok but no notification in the Notification Center). I also know about at least one more user who also isn't getting any notifications from Facebook.

Indeed, I haven't received any for around 6 hours now. When it was working, there was however an issue where clicking on a FB notification did absolutely nothing - so it's possible that the FB notification function has been switched off while they fix that.

Can anyone confirm whether the FB notifications have started working well? It has been over 8 hours since I updated and I am still not receiving Facebook notifications in the notification center. I can post from notification center, safari or other apps.

It's still not working for me. The only notification I've received was almost 24 hours ago. And I'm still wondering - is it a Facebook/Apple issue or is it a problem with my computer because of using the Facebook Developer Preview...

But right now It seems that we just need to wait and see.

    Hey guys..

Are you receiving Facebook notifications or not yet?

I only updated to 10.8.2 yesterday, but haven't received any Facebook notificaitons yet.

Seems the issue is intermittent. Sometimes a receive a lot of Facebook notifications, and sometimes I don't get any at all, even though I should (checked on Facebook.com). Maybe they're still fixing it or maybe the service responsible for delivering notifications to OS X users is overloaded or something. But it's just my guess.

Same issue here. spoke to apple support!

They asked me to create a test account other than the regular one i use. When fb was added to the test account - it was working smooth as expected (notif's, messages... all showd up).

but - no idea why this is not working in the native account! ended the call sayn they will figure out y this is happens and get back.

can you or any one check if fb works in a test account?

    thanks.

    Hey,

I got the same problem. I don't get it. The first day, when I added my facebook account to OS X 10.8.2, it worked pretty well. I got every notification in the side bar.

The day after, it stopped working. I dont get notifications anymore and I have no idea where the problem is.

To post on facebook with the notification center is still working. Does the problem have anything to do with the facebook and contacts.app synchronisation? I switched that off, since I got too many wrong contacts.

    bye

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. Since upgrading to 10.8.2 I have not had a single Facebook notification. Very frustrating!

    Try this!

    Quit all the applications

Sys Pref > Mail, Contacts & Calendars > "log off from Facebook"

Open finder & go to library (press Option key and click on GO > library)

We need to remove the following contents:

    Library/Caches/

    Library/Cookies/

    Library/Facebook/

    Library/Application Support/NotificationCenter/

    Library/Preferences/Byhost/com.apple.notificationcenter.plist

    Empty the Trash

Logout and login to the user account or restart!

Sys Pref > Mail, Contacts & Calendars > "log in to Facebook"

You should start getting notifications! (it worked for me)

**might as well need to go through the notifications settings in Sys Pref > Notifications to check of its as per your choice (Banners or Alerts).

    Hope this works!

    PRAM/SMC needs repair perhaps?

    1. Shut down the iMac.

    2. Unplugged the ac power.

    3. Press power button for 5 seconds.

    4. Put the ac power back.

    5. Hold power button for 5 seconds and let go.

    Hopefully this will work!

tried everything you proposed but nothing helped

It's really starting to annoy me, first the promised and delayed the feature and now it's still not working,

they shouldn't push out unfinished software updates.

    Thanks anyways for your help
