iOS 6 killed Wi-Fi Sync

Hey guys,

I updated my iOS and OS to the newest versions respectively today. As well as extremely intermittent Wi-Fi in general, my iPhone now does not sync via Wi-Fi.

All the settings are the same as they were before the update.

Sometimes the phone appears in the side bar of iTunes but just hangs at this for 5 minutes before becoming solid and ejecting in the same second.

Extremely frustrating problem. I have restarted my modem & router, my iPhones network settings and my MacBook Pro.

Any help would be great!

This is what I did and it's working for me. I have an iPhone 4 with iOS6. I made sure I had iTunes opened, I went to Wi-Fi Sync on the phone and the Sync Now button is available only for a few seconds. I tapped on it real quickly and it trigged a communication with iTunes. The first time I had to hit Cancel Sync but then tapped on the Sync Now button again and that time it worked. I now have the Sync Now button available all the time. I hope this fixes your issue as well.🙂

Philly - you are absolutely right. itunes recognizes my ipad when i unplug it from power - despite the fact that it says right on the ipad over the sync button "automatically sync with itunes on your computer when your ipad is plugged in to power and connected to wi-fi". Sync works on w-fi when not plugged in to power.

I'm having the same syncing issues with ios 6. I have two computers both running Windows XP SP3 with the current version of iTunes. One syncs with my iPhone 4 and the other with my wife's iPhone 4 and iPad 2. All are updated to ios 6.

They no longer sync via wifi. If I physically plug them into the computers they will sync and once I remove them (setting to sync via wifi checked) they may sync with wifi once then no longer. If I select sync from iTunes, it looks for the displayed ios device and then they disappear. I have reinstalled iTunes (over the existing) and clicked repair files for the apple application support file and apple mobile device file in control panel. I've also reset both phones. Nothing seems to work. The only way to sync is to connect physically. The sync also seems slow, but it may be my frustration with this new issue. My wifi works fine on all devices.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

It seems that I can automatically sync only two devices via wi-fi unless I restart the router. This works - for a while anyway. I restarted the router (Airport Extreme) yesterday and all was well. Today It would only sync two devices via wi-fi again. Restarted. Works again and I can sync all four of my devices. Restarting is a temporary fix. All was well prior to iOS 6.

I'm going to share my experience, though I know it might not duplicate for everyone. I have an iPad 3, ipod 4 and iphone 4 (verizon). I've got iOS 6 on them all. Today I noticed wifi sync was not working. After consulting a knowledgebase article, I found that the following steps worked:

  1. open itunes on your pc.
  2. plug the iphone into the pc via the sync cable.
  3. open the iphone settings menu to general, itunes wifi sync.
  4. via itunes check the "sync with wifi" option if it isn't already.
  5. on the iphone confirm that the iphone settings, general, itunes wifi sync indicates it's ready for wifi syncing.
  6. unplug the iphone from the sync cable and power it down (not a restart, but a power off).
  7. with the iphone still powered off, plug the iphone into a power source (not the pc). It should automatically turn itself on, but if it doesn't, power it on.
  8. sign in to the iphone via passcode (if there is one).
  9. itunes found the iphone and began wifi sync almost immediately.
