Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment.  Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore.   I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password"  (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues.  My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

Test Ipad at friends/family place. If the device works, it means two things

    1) the device is faulty

    2) its not compatible with your WiFi Device where you might need to upgrade/downgrade firmware OR tweek your WiFi Device. This needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing, otherwise its best to speak with the Product Support Number or someone else who can assist

the above two comments pretty much sum up the hundreds of pages related to WiFi issues

If your Ipad works at friends place how does that

    make it faulty?

If it doesnt work at friends place OR olybaris place and its new out of the box, its either faulty OR having compatability issues communicating with the WiFi equipment. This is the root problem for all WiFi issues aside from physical faults out of the box.

you either live in pain like all of us here and hope a stable update resolves this, tweak around with your WiFi devices settings and firmware

Otherwise return the Iphone 5, Ipad or what ever new device it is and chance to exchange or get refund.

If i could go back in time, i'd be telling everyone not to invest in these products

Im not being negative, ive been around since day one of these threads and the only FIX was to downgrade my WiFi Firmware as a "work around". As i've worked in IT for all my life, this is something you just dont do, however the documentation of the firmware differences of downgrading firmware doesnt cause any security issues so i went ahead with it.

A friendly warning to everyone , REFUND , exchange / repair or enjoy our pain along the way.

Actually my pain has turned in to humour as its been so long, im just used to it now

I have an Ipad 2 with ios 6.0.1 and we have a problem where the internet connects for about a minute and then when im on safari the loading bar stops 1/4 blue(loaded) and my ipad only has 1 bar of internet but we waited for a long time (17) minutes and we tried everything

    -restarting ipad

    -forgetting network

    -restarting router

-A lot more stuff I cant think of

so we called Apple Support and they said the routers firmware needed an update but when we called our internet service provider, Shaw, they said that the firmware update is all automatic. So now the iPad is useless.

If there are answers to this plese help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Uahmed1:

There is a Simple answer, well a few actually.

Latest Firmware doesnt mean its compatible, cases such as myself i had to DOWNGRADE firmware and that i was able to connect my IOS 6 Device back to my WiFi, try that

Otherwise... I wouldnt recommend anyone getting an Apple Device OR upgrade to IOS6 till these WiFi issues are resolved, unless you want to be in the same boat as us here.

Any NEW Apple users, i've given you my warning

Uahmed1: If you are unable to get i working, it simply means your WiFi device isnt compatable with your IOS6 Device. these problems have occured since IOS6 became available to install and no NEW devices.

The other option is to buy yourself a new WiFi Device and hope for the best

Do you think apple will either fix this bug (because I saw a lot of recent comments for iOS 6.0.1) in the next update or do you think apple can revert my iPad to iOS 5 and fix it.

BTW: My iPad wifi is currently working so if you have anything for me to do for my iPad it might work.

    P.S. thanks for the advice

If you read any of the related posts in this thread you would know that...

    1. Apple has not officially stated that there is a problem or that it plans a fix. Doesn't matter what some support tech said to some user on some phone call. Nobody knows what the next update will bring or what it will deal with.

    2. You cannot go back to iOS 5.

If you yourself are experiencing a problem this thread has a number suggestions that may or may not help. Chief among them is making sure your router has the latest firmware installed. Other fixes include rebooting your iPad, toggling ceratin options in the Settings app. Just start reading and trying some things.

I think the issue relates to having restored a backup from a previous iOS, or earlier iPhone version.

I got an iPhone 5 two weeks ago and restored a backup from my iPhone 4 onto it straight away, since then I have had issues with WiFi:- I can connect to networks just fine, but can't pull any data over them.

I've been having to resort to using 3g/LTE which works fine but is hardly ideal.

My business partner got the same model iPhone 5 from the same store at the same time but it was his first iPhone and setup as a new device - he has used it without issue.

My girlfriend is using an iPad 2 on the same networks as I, also with the current latest iOS 6.0.1 without any issue at all, this is also her first iPad - no backup restored onto it.

    Things I have tried:-

My router has the latest firmware and works with any other device I've connected to it just fine (mainly Apple devices as it happens).

settings>general>reset>reset network settings (i thought this had fixed it, WiFi worked perfectly, but only as it transpired - for about 24 hours.)

    Power cycling iPhone (no difference)

Setting the HTTP proxy to auto (no difference)

Using a static IP (no difference)

Toggling WiFi/Airplane mode on/off (no difference)

Setting a reservation on my router for the iPhone (no difference)

Changing WiFi channel on router, tried; "Auto", "11" and "6". (no difference)

Changing WiFi encryption on the router (no difference)

All with the same result, connecting to the network is fine, but after a flicker of network activity (maybe 1 webpage loads) no further data is transferred.

Here's hoping for iOS 6.0.2 which solves WiFi network connectivity problems.

Netgear 3800,  iPhone4, iPad2 recurrent dropped connections  Cycling power on the router allow the Apple devices to connect.  Nexus7 , iPhone5, no problem. What a pain.  Numerous fix fails.

    Hi Jim,

Yes Netgear are aware of their various WiFi Devices having issues with IOS 6 Based Apple products. Can try upgrading/downgrading firmware, otherwise best to buy something different if you want to in hopes for more cmopatibility, otherwise if you cant then your Apple Product for a refund if you can

See my post comments below as all these issues whether Ipad/Iphone etc are all related

I have had this same issue.  Mine has worked perfect since the upgrade until this past Tuesday.  We were putting up the Christmas tree and I went to check the weather and all of a sudden I had no internet connectivity whatsoever.  It did say however that I was connected to my home internet.

I have tried all of the things you have said.  I am using a Netgear router that is only around 2 years old.

My phone is basically a paperweight.
