Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment.  Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore.   I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password"  (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues.  My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

Actually, my issue was just resolved when I called Apple support and explained how unhappy and frustrated I was with my first Apple product.  I was provided with technical support eventhough my warranty ran out 40 days ago.

I had to unplug my router, reset network settings, reboot phone, wait for it to come back up completely and then plug router back in.  I was then able to get connectivity back.

    Hi grm:

if you're running devices that have IOS6, whats your WiFi Product and firmware ?. Perhaps this might help with making a decision of what WiFi Products to buy in terms of possible compatibility

    Cheers..

Let me just say I'm super ecstatic that I'm working again.  As I said before I had been working all along except from this past Tuesday until just a little bit ago.

We have been using this router for the past couple years and havent had any issues.  Using the default settings.  Nothing crazy:

Hi grm: Firmware is important to know, can you please check ?

As i have a Netgear WG102 through my Work Sites , the latest firmware doesnt work, i had to downgrade to get it working.

Also... The link you provided points out that your device has known IOS 6 issues, hence knowing the firmware could be useful, unless thats Netgear's "general" warning about IOS 6 connectivity issues

    Thanks

    Firmware version V2.1.13_2.1.13NA

Nothing has been changed.  This is default from factory.

I hope this helps.  I was so frustrated I wwas ready to pull my hair out.  I was actually pretty surprised that Apple helped me without any questions asked eventhough my product was out of warranty.

    To Grm:

Surprisingly if you bought your product its somehow came with the LATEST firmware, as there has been previous versions.

If you're comfortable in changing firmware at your own descretion, try downloading and installing the 3 firmware versions of it and see if ALL devices work fine OR if it just Version 2.1.13 that works ?

As for those which might have the same model in question, they will be aware of what seems to work on the firmware side of things.

I have a diagnosis and partial solution (at least in my case):

Like a lot of us here, I could not connect to my wifi with my new ipad mini. Tried resetting network, on/off, restarting, administering router etc. Here is the issue: The iPad will connect to the router (airport extreme) from a very close proximity only: a few feet. If you go out of this range it will drop the connection and won't connect again unless you get back close. The only way to make it connect from a distance is to set the router to 5Ghz only. That's not an option for me as I have one theater receivers, security cameras and Nest thermostats that cannot get on 5Ghz. So, I bought the latest airport base and set up two networks: one b/g/n and one 5Ghz only. Then I set all Apple devices to connect to the 5Ghz network and the rest to the other b/g/n. That solved my problem and added a lot of speed to my bandwidth as well.

Obviously, it's an expensive solution and of course it doesn't help at all outside of the house. Why the iPad cannot connect to non 5Ghz networks is still a mystery to me and needs to be addressed by Apple. I hope these diagnostics and partial solution will help someone.

I am no longer having issues with my iPad 2 at home, as I have upgrade to a Belkin 5ghz router (although my iPhone 4S which can only see the 2.4 ghz network is still having issues.) my iPhone always shows full wifi reception bars, but will drop connection/stop loading if I move away from the router. Below is a post from another discussion group I am following. Thought I would share it for anyone here to try.

"I fixed my ipad2 by trying everything that I could find, including backup and restore, and then selecting to reset->location and privacy settings"

    Good luck everyone!

UPdate 6.0.2 came out. Has anyone tried it? It was released specifically to resolve wifi issues.

Its only for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini and seems to have resolved it for those two devices. No other iDevices are able to install it though. So iPad users are still hung at the moment. Guess waiting til iOS 6.1 in January or March unless they release a new iOS 6.0.2 or an iOS 6.0.3 for the other iDevices like iPhone 4s and iPad 2-4.

i have the same issue and bad(but working solution).

    iPad 3gen iOS 6.01,iPad 2 gen,iPhone 4/4s/5 with iOS 6.01 work well,but another iPad gen 2 can't connect to wifi.

i've tried Auto mode in http proxy, forget this network, reseting network settings, router turns on/off/restoring iPad from iTunes and by WIFI - not working!

The only working and ugly solution is setting the router from 802.11n only mode to 802.11gn with NO encryption.

I don't understand why the new IOS 6.0.2 update is only for Iphone and Ipad mini and not for Ipad 2,3,4 when these ones are also having wifi problems. I hope Apple also releases it for this device as soon as posible.

ok,i've fixed my problem by downgrading my roter Zyxel Keenetic to the old version which gives an option for WPA2 TKIP+AES and not TKIP/AES only.

I think if you can set up your router to WPA2 and mixed mode TKIP/AES it will be okay, because the problem is with one of them.

If you can't change it in your router settings - just hope for apple fix ((
