My wifi seems better now. Mine never really had a problem connecting with my home wifi but would often lock up when returning home from work. Things like safari and some apps would work under wifi but others like itunes store and app store would not load anything. Speedtest app would download but show zero upload. The only fix when this intermittently happened would be to reboot the phone. Then all would be ok until it next happened maybe a day or two later. Very annoying.

Anyway I read a post probably several pages back on this thread from a guy who got similar and was using a draytek router (mine is netgear with same draytek as an additional access point). He changed a myriad of settings and seemed to get a fix. Whilst I didn't do the same I did follow one of them and that was to go into the language settings and change from British English to French and then back to British English. Since I did that over a week ago I have not seen the problems resurface. I am not saying this is the fix to all issues as mine is unique to many of the posts but it may help. Worth a try, we have nothing to lose!

    Cheers,

    Wayne

Apple latest patch release not capable to resolve the problem yet. I found a couple of workouts here that worth for a shot.

IOS 6.0.2 seems to have introduced a NEW issue on my iphone 5 -- major battery drain!  That was not a problem for the past month with my new i5, but after the update it is wiping out my battery in less than a day, whereas before I could go several days with no issues.

And I'm still having wifi issues.

    Unreal.

I've never had any problems with my iPhone 5 until the 6.0.2 update.  Battery life has been halved, and it has crashed and restarted a dozen times over the last day.  If I go to settings -> general -> usage, settings crashes every time.   I can no longer get app updates from the app store at all, it tells me "Unable to Purchase" and to try again later.   This is a Sprint iPhone and I updated over the air Tuesday night.

Based on my experience I recommend skipping 6.0.2!

I had a problem connecting to my work's wifi network right after updating to 6.0.  Really had to fight to get it to connect.  I had no control over the router so I could not restart it or change the type of security, WEP or WAP not sure which they use.

I restarted my iPhone, reset settings, cleard cookies and history in Safari, etc. etc.

I finally change proxy to Auto not off or Manual in the specific network settings section and haven't had any problems since.

When I have problems connecting to public Wifi, i.e. Starbucks, etc. I just set Proxy to Auto and seem to be able to connect right away after that.

I got my new iPhone 5 today.

    - I can see my wireless

    - it will not connect

      - regardless whether I am using WEP or leave out WEB (open wireless)

Added an old Cisco WLAN hub with an open wireless port

    - iPhone 5 will see the connection but will never connect

The old iPhone 4 will happily connect to any of the connections mentioned above!!

    - LanCom with/ without WEP - OK

    - Cisco without WEP (open) - OK

iPhone 5 sees the wireless networks - never connects!!

    p.s.

    Both iPhones run 6.0.1

Have you tried pdating your iPhone 5 to 6.0.2?

  • mrclausen Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    ... thanks for the hint.

When installing the iPhone it was not mentioned that there would be a new version available.

    Now downloading...

Will know tomorrow morning whether it works. Its now midnight in Europe...

    Cheers

Upgrade to 6.0.2 on the iPhone 5 ==> no improvement <==

    Neither connection works!

    6.0.2 does not change anything!

Hey apple QA: How do you test your software? - Only with the latest hardware/ software?

We are out here using also old stuff - and are not able to replace all of it just beacuse the implementation on the iPhone uses the latest WLAN features.

Implement a fall back solution so the iPhone 5 will also work with older WLAN routers/ switches

We are NOT in the old Roman times where the world was turning around Rome (apple)!

    Cheers

    any chance for 6.0.3??

    Back at work...

Here we are using the latest WLAN equipment from Cisco - and IT actually WORKS!

Looks like the litte bit in the communication is really causing the problems.

Coming back to my previous post:

    @apple: please implement a fallback!

When the initialisation of a WLAN connection is rejected by the router/ switch try to connect 'the old way' without the feature bit!!!

    Hope for a solution soon!

In a mad fit of frustration with my iPhone and WiFi – I have resolved the issue and it is working fully for me now on EVERY connection

If I select my home Network from the “Choose a Network” list in Wi-Fi and connect to NETGEAR (My home network), it takes a while to connect and doesn’t really work properly with all the issues noted in this log.

BUT, if I select “Other” and enter by actually typing in “NETGEAR” and then “Join” – it connects instantly and works perfectly.

It now also auto-joins each time I turn Wi-Fi off or go out of range, which it was not doing before.  I also note that if I click on it, I now see “Forget this Network” on the connection, which was not there at all before.

So – it would seem that if I try and join some (not all though) networks using the Scanned SSID – I might have problems but if I type it in myself, it works perfectly.  It also seems to matter if I have connected to that network before.

So there must be something wrong with broadcasted SSID’s and how they connect, maybe if I have connected to those networks before on prior IOS versions? Dunno.

Don’t care – It is definitely working for me.  This was pre- 6.0.2 update too - I was running 6.0.1.

It's great to have the phone working as it should.

Prior to this - I had reset Network setting, restored iPhone, setup as new iPhone, changed the way I accepted cookies (random, I know), cleared caches and cookies and a few other random things. None of these made any differences.

Anyway - try it yourself and see it it works for you!!

    Hi Scunge.

Looks like you found a solution to the problem!

I could use an open wifi at work but NOT one with a WPA2

    So following your example:

BUT, if I select “Other” and enter by actually typing in “NETGEAR” and then “Join” – it connects instantly and works perfectly.

I used 'other' and then connected to the net with the correct SSID and selected company wide WPA2

This gives the chance to enter user and password again.

Having done this - the iPhone happily connected also to that wifi network.

I wonder whether this will also work at home with the older wifi switches....

  • Scunge Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    Hi mcclausen

I have tried this on my home network (Netgear new router), Local Pub Network (Netgear old router and firmware) and 2 work networks and it works perfectly on all of them now.  So I bet you will be fine at home too now.

    Good luck!

BTW - I also had my iPhone 5 replaced last weekend at Apple in Leicester because of the problem, although when I walked in, I connected to the APPLE Open Wi-Fi in store and it worked perfectly...They still replaced the hardware to rule out that though.

Looking at the online communities, there appears to be loads of people suffering from this.  I had hoped that 6.0.1 would have fixed it and maybe the 6.1 which is in Beta 4 will do without having to do things manually to get it working.

Anyway - enjoy and Happy Christmas

    Cheers

    Ken
