Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

iPad mini here (iOS 6.1). I keep having to enter password when I connect to my router (Linksys WRT54G) so I tested if I can connect to Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (portable hotspot) - same negative result.  I also noticed that in parts of the location where other devices are able to connect, the signal breaks down a lot on the iPad mini - which means I have to keep entering the password to reconnect.  So the solution I found that worked was to connect via Static IP - ignoring the DHCP server.  So far, seems both issues were solved.

I think the complaints regarding the iDevices here are valid.  Even if I found a solution (seemingly), I shouldn't have had to.  It should work well without any special settings.  There are Wifi standards maintained by organizations like IEEE which every device manufacturer, whether router or mobile devices should follow.  Shifting the blame to the router isn't acceptable since many testify that other devices are working fine with the routers AND users have no control over the routers they will use in many places.  It is up to Apple to make a product that will keep their users connected to as many routers as are commonly used - a mobile device that only connects to your (perfectly tuned) Wifi at home is less a mobile device than it should be.

iPhone 4 GSM was on 5.2.1 and everything worked great. Upgraded to 6.1 on Monday evening... hmmm not expieriencing the issues most of you guys are having. But... I have a VPN connection back to my office where I run a SIP phone (Counterpath Bria iPhone Edition). If I connect the VPN and open up Bria everything works great. If the phone goes to sleep it disconnects the wifi, breaking the VPN connection along withit and the SIP phone deregisters.

I thought that if the iphone goes to sleep and an application is running in the background making use of the Wi-Fi, it will not disconnect the wifi signal? This is not happening.. It is dropping intermittently while asleep or not. I have set my mail.app to push mail from my office server in a attempt to keep the information flowing over Wi-Fi connection... nothing still problem persists.

This was a non issue on iOS 5.2.1 so what changed?

Upgraded my 4S and my girlfriends with 6.1.1 and now have no Wifi capability. My PC, I Pad and Apple Tv all work fine with my Airport extreme router. Do not upgrade !!!!

It's been a few days since I upgraded to 6.1 (and 6.1.1 on my 4s) and, for me, it's a definite improvement. The dual band Netgear DGND3700 (N600) router I had to ditch after upgrading to 6.0? It's back. With 6.1.x WiFi connections are stable (both on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) and no changes have been made to the router's firmware (just a factory reset). I haven't tried connecting to any public WiFi hotspots yet but will let you know how I get on.

I am right about getting the sense from some comments that Apple doesn't think this is their issue, routers and router configurations and interference are the issues? Because while there are going to be those cases in the mix, there are a lot of complaints where wifi suddenly does not work at all immediately after the update. In my case, dozens and dozens of devices, mostly Android, but including older Apple stuff have been set up no problems through my router, but new iPhone5 never would never connect (WNDR3700). But then connects right up no problem whatever to my spare router now access point to support it. And it should no matter whatsoever that I set up MAC filtering and keyword filtering, those are set up on my access point as well. I should not have to downgrade my router firmware, reset the brand new phone, and I did not, it worked perfectly fine with different router.

Correct . Its all about cross-compatability, you cant keep everyone happy thats just a fact.

i became stuck myself with compatability issues with Netgear WAP's, then IOS 6.1 came out then back to normal again.

Well, if it's just iOS not working well with a specific brand/model, then yea, it's probably not Apple's problem

But if iOS is having issues with many, many products, when this wasn't the case before...no cookies for figuring out whose problem it is.

I've been having this stupid wifi issue since the first ios 6.0.1 update, after the 6.1.1 update it worked fine for a week or two AND NOW IT'S GREYED OUT AGAIN. i am so ******* ******. not just because i cannot use the wifi. but because i have to pay more each month after reaching my internet limit. **** you apple. **** you.

Sounds like it's time to see if the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Sell or trash your Apple gear and try something else. You've never said whether you took the device to an Apple repair center to see if it's something else.

Let us know how the other side of the fence is.

Thanks but WIFI is a feature to connect WHEREVER there is an hotspot, and not only at home. So it must work with any hotspot and what you suggest is not possibile with any hotspot.

Well said, went back to Apple store yesterday 4th iPhone 5 still will not work on any hotspot. I think this is just the way it's going to be, or maybe this is the way the phone works. Guy at Apple store said has it heard of any wifi problems with the Iphone 5. But I took pictures of how my phone show that it connect to wifi but will not show IP Address or push any date said it was hardware, gave new phone but this one works the same way. I have unit September before one year warranty is up. Will be going back to Apple again.

My iMac is connected to my wireless router by powerline adapters and I have set it up for internet sharing (ie. it acts as as wireless repeater). My iPhone and iPad have an EyeTV app installed, a feature of which allows a network check to be carried out. I assume that this is a check of the speed between the iDevice and the EyeTV application on the iMac. Oddly, the achieved speed when connected to the primary wireless router, which is not an Apple one, is only about a half what is achieved when connected to the wireless signal of the iMac. Intuitively, it should be the other way round, and suggests that the iDevices work far better with an Apple wireless transmitter/receiver (ie. the iMac set up for internet sharing) than a non-apple wireless router, even though this is what the iMac is getting its network connection from. It does seem as though there is some incompatability between iDevices and non-Apple routers, although I do not think that this is the whole story by far.
