Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment.  Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore.   I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password"  (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues.  My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

It sounds like the same issue u r having as what i did. My work around was DOWNGRADING firmware to your WAP. Long story short, if you dont know how to do this, contact someone whose a Tech OR ring you're WAP vendor for support

As you are saving "my belkin" im guessing you have control over it ?

    Hi, I'm new to this.

    I don't know whether my problem is related;

but recently downloaded to the newest Ios6 software and ever since I have been having trouble with connecting to my wifi. I can only connect to wifi when my phone is right next to the modem, even if I am in the next room, I struggle to connect to the Internet. This has never happened and I am at a lost cause as to what it could be!

    Can anyone help me?

    Heather,

It means your WAP , Wireless Access Point device doesnt like talking to your Iphone Device anymore, its the same old story everyone is having.

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21596738#21596738

Since you're new, then start with this:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398

Then post, and say you've done it all etc, to narrow down some alternatives, otherwise you could be stuck in limbo.

I had the problem.  It was awful.  I tried a few of the fixes suggested in the forums.  some worked initially, but after one successful connection, it would fail.  i have Applecare.  i called them and they tried a bunch of fixes, many of which are discussed in the forums.  again, a couple worked initially but would fail immediately thereafter.  So eventually they gave me a new phone.  It took about two weeks of working with them.  The new phone works fine.  No problems.  What a relief.  If you have the problem I had, you should focus your efforts on getting Apple to give you a new phone.

Well, I can know confirm what has been the problem.

When I connect my iMac 2010 to the network, it will in a couple of minutes totally mess it up for my iPhone 5 running 6.1.3 (and it did that from 6.1) - no matter if I connect it via ethernet or wifi. There is something about that machine that messes with the network. Interestingly enough: When I switched between ethernet and wifi and back, just to see if it was better with either - the iPhone maxed its speed the first minute or so. But after that, it was back to sloooooow again.

It has a fixed IP through ethernet, but the IP is automatically assigned via the wifi. It ends up the same.

Hopefully someone will make sense of this.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I managed to resolve my issue.

From a software development and ITIL perspective I wouldn't usually recommend making such a change (as modifying a router config) unless one had first isolated isolated and confirmed that it was the cause of the fault in the first place.  As a general rule of thumb, experience tells me that faults are normally introduced by the last thing changed. Typically they are usually a deviation in the baseline configuration or an undocumented [unknown] change. The fix might not be to undo the last change, but to understand its "impact" on the other components in the system (known as impact analysis).

In my case it was a case of cause and effect, in that it was working before the update but not after - I could see the network but could not connect. This may have been the case (unconfirmed) but the impact was that I needed to connect to my router and perform a reset, and I also took the opportunity to change the bandwidth setting from 20Mhz to 20/40Mhz. I then reset my IPad and after entering the appropriate credentials, was able to connect. So for me the issue may have just required a router reset to resolve it.

From a process improvement point of view, I will now take more care before doing updates to ensure I am aware of what might change and will include network connectivity in my post update testing.

my iphone 4 will not connect to wifi with mixed wpa on my netgear router. i can change that easily at home and have done and have no issues now. wpa2 works fine.

but when i try to use hotel or free wifi invariably they are set to mixed wpa and my iphone cant connect.

or if it does it fails and then cant even see the network.

exactly the same as at home before.

now i cant go round asking hotels and mcdonalds free wifi to change their security settings on their routers can i?

is there a fix for this yet?

    or is it called android?

    Hi everyone.

Both my iPhone 4S and iPad 4 can't connect to wifi anymore,  they are both on iOS 6.1.3, I've tried network resets various times, switch off the router and back on, forget this network, I also changed my router settings from WPA-TKIP to WPA2-TKIP but still the same problem!!

I used to be able to connect to my wifi network with no problems.

The signal strength is very good, but no Internet connection, or it would connect but VERY SLOW!.

This really is annoying me, can someone suggest anything please?

Apart from getting rid of both devices!!

Stinky thing.  We were connecting fine until the latest iOS upgrade.  Now my ipad2 works fine, our 2 iPhones work fine, our 2 dos computers connect fine and the wii connects but the iPad 3 drops the connection constantly and it is soooo slow when it does try something on the Internet.  Apple needs to fix.  I don't really want to change my router when everything else works.

what doesnt help is that you will get some dyed in the wool apple preacher telling you its the router that is at fault.

on another thread i got the "it wont be the phone that is at fault it will be your router."

as in apple can do no wrong. what is it with these people? is it a massive competition between apple and everyone else?

we just want apple to accept that there is a problem and the more you get apple afficionados saying "well there is nothing wrong with mine" EVER NEVER etc then the more apple will sweep it under the carpet or fail to look into it.

we just want reliable wifi connectivity.

using our routers and free wifi routers that the majority can connect to.

is that too much to ask?

does anyone from apple ever read these forums or post on them?

No. These are user to user technical help forums hosted by Apple. Apple doesn't participate here.

I have read countless posts of a huge number of Apple users mainly iPhone, iPad users with continued problems regarding wifi being disabled since the ios6 upgrade. A large number of users are reporting that the problem lies with Netgear routers, which I find ridiculous as NOT everyone is using Netgear routers. I truly believe the issue began and ends with the ios6 update!! Despite the notion that Apple does not review these community forums & posts, I'm quite sure they are aware of this frustrating situation; however, IMO they are being very careless and irresponsible with respect to their patronsbregarding this matter.

I to am having this same issue. I can connect to an unsecured wifi any place else. When I got my 4s it had ios 5 on it and was able to connect to my wifi with the same secure as I have now. and when I did the upgrade to the ios6 it stopped working. I have reset routers and reset the phone to no avail. I am not going to set my wifi at home to UNSECURED just to get wifi on my phone. I will just deal untill apple gets this fixed.
