Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment.  Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore.   I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password"  (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues.  My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

After upgrading, every time I changed locations, I was not connected automatically to the known network.  I had to tap on the network name, rejoin, and re-enter my password.

One time, instead of picking the network from the list of networks, I chose "Other."  I then entered the network name, and from the next screen entered the WEP password.

That solved the problem.  If I go away and come back, the phone rejoins the network automatically the way it used to do before the upgrade.

Welll, I too am having problems with wifi after upgrading to IOS6.

I first noticed it earlier this week while streaming some online video which kept stopping. At the time I just decided to forget it as I wans't that bothered about watching the video.

Anyway last night I was doing the same thing but this time I was bothered so investigated a bit more.

My iPad is a 3 with 4g connected via wireless to a BT home hub V3 using WPA2 etc.

I noticed that every few minutes, or longer as there isn't a fixed pattern/time, the iPad would switch to 3g and the video would stop/start while it dropped off wireless, onto 3g, then was struggling to play.

I've lost count of the ammount of times I had to manually select the wireless network again to continue.

I've read that it could be because of using the highest wireless security.

I use a BT Home Hub 3 during the week due but at weekends I connect to a Cisco Airnet which is WEP128Bit. I don't remember any issues in the last few weeks with wireless using the Cisco Airnet with WEP128Bit but I wasn't looking for any. This weekend I will monitor the wireless on the Cisco Airnet with WEP128Bit and see if it is in fact working ok. I will be using the same iPad so it will be a true test and report the findings.

Temporary fixed for my iPad WiFi issue:

I came up with this conclusions:

    • iPad was able to connect to router with WiFi at home without any issue
    • iPad was having troubles to connect to the other 2 Cisco wireless APs at home
    • upgraded to latest firmware on 2 cisco wireless APs didn't help
    • reset APs to factory default didn't help
    • changed and use different SSID and security setting (WAP, WAP2...etc) didn't help

At the end, after I changed and switched from AUTO channels to any static number channel on both APs, it fixed the issues.  My iPad was able to connect with fast reliable WiFi speed!!!

At this point, I believe the WiFi bug/issue is still remain in IOS 6.  That's because I was using the same WiFi setup at home prior to upgrading to IOS 6 without any issue for years.

Don't know if this is related to your wifi issue but before iOS 6 I could set up a personal hotspot on my iPad 3 and my friend's iPad 1 could connect to it, no problem. Since iOS6 it doesn't seem to work. My iPad says a connection has been made but my friend's iPad, though it sees mine, can't connect. We solved the problem by using Bluetooth instead of wifi but still I hope this will be fixed in the next upgrade.

Interesting, this would suggest that the iPad was struggling to reconnect to the WAP if it decided to switch the channel it was transmitting on.

My Cisco Airnet is on a fixed channel so maybe that's why I haven't noticed any problems with it.

I'm not sure about the BT Home hub though so will check that next week.

This is a very very annoying and serious problem in my opinion.

Tried all solution mentioned in this post. Manual proxy, reset network settings, switched to WPA, AES / TKIP, turned to static channel, NEITHER OF THEM WORK for my case, BOTH MY IPHONE 4S and IPAD 3 CANNOT access my home router. Well, it must not be my router problem because my PC, Mac and iPhone 3GS (iOS 5.1.1.) do connect to my router well. And I got 2 routers, iOS6 CANNOT WORK ON NEITHER OF THEM.

APPLE GENIUS?? what the **** are you doing? over thousands users reported WIFI issue, but NO RESPONSE till now, NOBODY admitted the existense of this bug. I dont care how suck your Apple map is. I just want my internet connection back. Are you guys waiting for Steve Job's reply? SOB....

I gonna move to G product soon if Apple keeps this low quality in future

This is a user to user forum. We are all just users here. You aren't talking to Apple.

If you want to give feedback to Apple use http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

If you do send feedback to Apple you should include details on the router you are using.

Note that just because other devices can still use your router doesn't mean that it is faultless and there must be a bug in iOS. You should check to see if there is a firmware update for your router on the manufacturer's support web pages.

After spending a few days trying to fix my intermittent wifi issues, and waiting to see if Apple was going to provide a fix, I scheduled an appointment with the Genius Bar (everyone here should be opening a problem report with Apple...this won't get solved unless they have problem reports).  The Genius Bar guys decided the best thing to do would be for them to factory reset my iPad and reinstall IOS6 as they believe that the firmware was likely corrupted during the upgrade.  This unfortunately means no going back to backups...I had to delete them, so if you are going to do this make sure you have copies of all your content stored somewhere other than your device backups.  It also means having to reload all your apps, resync all your content and re-enter all your settings, passwords etc...the reset they do at the store apparently can't be done by an end user...they reload the IOS from their servers.

The iPad connected flawlessly last night and all wifi errors have cleared...this really may just be an installation bug, as opposed to an actual IOS bug.  It would help explain the randomness of the devices affected, both Apple and router types alike since only 1 of every n machines would be affected.

Hopefully this fix resolves the problem permanently.  I will definitely be posting again if not.

Call Apple.  Log your problem, and forget trying to toggle wifi settings on your router.  The router is not the problem...

I had this idea for those with a Net Gear router.  The next person who goes to get the experts at Apple to resolve the issue - Take your NetGear router and let them figure out why it won't work.  They can reset the router, plug it into an ethernet connection and go from there (be prepared to lose your router settings).  Will save you form deleting all your settings and files.

IT IS iOS6.....Stop telling people it is their routers. Apple needs to fix it quick or send out an update that will let us go back to iOS5!!! People start complaining to Apple like crazy...or it will not get fixed. Apple is too wrapped up worrying about that stupid Maps program. This is a hundred times more important than Maps...

It was correct to check with Apple service for a good fix.   It can't be an OS problem, or else why am I not affected at all also having had the upgrade?

Since there are already reports here of users solving the "iOS 6 WiFi problem" by updating router firmware your statement is certainly not entirely true.

I'll think I'll continue to keep an open mind about the cause of reported wifi problems. By the way, complaining in this forum to other users won't get Apple's attention. If you want to get feedback to Apple use http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
