Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment.  Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore.   I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password"  (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues.  My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

I am sick of this erratic problem. I've reset, factory restored, reset the router, tried every encryption setting, including no security, purchased a new modem, turned my wifi setting and selected forget network dozens of times every day trying to resolve this wifi problem!

Sometimes I connect and the connection lasts for a few hours until the battery drains. Yes, that's the other wonderful gift I received from Apple and ios6, rapid battery drain. Once I plug in the charger and my new ipad sleeps, there goes the wifi and the try to connect game starts all over again.

In other instances I will get a connection that lasts about 10 seconds until it drops, over and over and over, so maddening.

There is no firmware update for my Netgear router and anyway, I don't stay locked in my house shackled to one router. I used to take my ipad with me but since this ios6 "update" wifi is useless so I don't bother.

When I receive notices that this wonderful upgrade to ios6 is available for my 4S iphone I say thanks but no thanks!

Having tried every solution offered and combinations of those solutions (including 3 x complete restores) and still no iPad 3 connection to wifi networks requiring a physical login - prior to actually receiving the login screen (so I'm not actually on the internet as yet), the device messages that it cannot 'ping' apple and connection to router is dropped - reconnecting to the router/wifi proivider simply restarts this endless cycle.

Although people may have the best of intentions, it is becoming very frustrating reading that the solution is to resent "the network" as opposed to "the iPad or iPhone".

I am completely reliant on third party networks at the moment (I'm 50% through 6 months of business travel in europe) and when reading "the issue" and deciding to pen a "solution" please think of the practicalities of  requesting XXXX Wifi Provider or YYYY Wifi Provider to unplug and reset their routers simply because I have entered the airport, cafe, hotel etc - its simply not going to happen in 99.99% of cases.

I've purchased a wireless broadband SIM on my latest stop, however purchasing a pre-pay broadbans SIM in each country (I'm moving between 5 countries) will cost a small fortune and data tarriffs are extremely high. This is actually a disaster for me and will leave a lasting impression on me as I've never had a problem with my Samsung Galaxy and should perhaps have purchased an Androin Tablet (for less $$)

The router solution being offered by some 'may work' but it is similar to request the entire world change the time on their wristwatches to enable yours to show the correct time - almost laughable.

    And still nothing from Apple.

It's unbelievable to me how apple doesn't respond.  I hope all the apple sheep wake up someday.  I know I have!

This is a user-to-user help forum. Apple does not read this forum for problem reports or post to this forum. You won't see any answer from Apple here. If you want help from Apple contact Apple support. You can also report problems to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html These avenues provide a non-anonymous way to report problems which allows Apple to contact the user for more information if necessary.

Many people post complaints here thinking that they have the ear of Apple when they are just complaining to other users. Usually they provide no details for problem-solving or are just too upset to even listen to suggestions.

Are you a beta tester or something? Do you work for Apple? Your posts suggest a blind trust in Apple. Face it they just screwed up this time. Router updates and firmware upgrades; 1) should of been part of the instructions when you downloaded this disaster. 2) should not be required in the first place. 3) Apple should have been in contact with all the major router manufacturers making sure this thing would work.

The biggest question is why has Apple not fixed it yet?

I thought I'd chime in here.  Of course this isn't an Official Apple forum, but I can't imagine they aren't monitoring this forum if only part time.  Can you imagine one of the most successful companies in the world not covering their bases?  Well, okay, so they're here watching the boards but not testing things thoroughly up front.  LOL

Officially Apple does not read this forum, so you won't officially get a response from Apple.

But I have two experiences in the past where I had problems with Apple hardware and software . All was posted in fairly long threads and many posts.

In both occasions I received a e-mail from Apple engineers or engineers working for Apple in which they asked me  a lot of  data from my iMac and to perform some tests and sent the logs to them. Actually I had a phone call from one of them (USA-pacific coast to the Netherlands.)

So somehow , be it not directly, Apple is monitoring these forums.

Well someone from the powers that be at Apple is reading every post because a comment I wrote in my last post in this thread was removed.

Fact of the matter is that I bought a smartphone so I could use all the smart features like using wifi for my communications including wifi calls, especially from abroad. Asking to upgrade a router is like already mentioned a rediculous idea and not feasible. I did however asked our IT managers today who first looked at me amazed and then had a good laugh. They wondered why they would shutdown the wifi, upgrade something that works for everyone just to install a new firmware so iPhone users could connect. They also explained that before anything is ever installed it needs to be tested thoroughly and approved by other entities worldwide. Seemingly it's not black and white modifying something in a large world wide company.

I bought a iPhone cause in the end it would save me tons of money on roaming fees, now it would be cheaper to trade it in for a android phone cause this is costing me a fortune now

You know if they would just publicly admit they have a problem (like maps, and previously purchased in the store), it would go a long way.  They can say they are diverting resources to work on it, and its a high priority....  Instead the news is full of the release of the seven inch iPads!  Who would buy those when they probably cannot connect as well?  Going to be hard to sell here in the US I would think.   I'm thinking about a Nexus 7 to use instead of our two iPads, and one itouch since it may take 6 months to get a fix...  I was a die hard Apple fan...  That probably ended now.  Very poor testing scheme....

Jb... That is such an excellent point about the mini iPad but does the average person even know of this problem? FYI, I haven't had any problems with my iPhone until today when I was at whole foods.  I couldn't connect!  Not that I care if I can't connect there but it sened really odd.  I used to lose connection on my iPad at home but clearing cookies and rebooting solved it.  And bye I'm SICK of having mail issues!  It's android next time for me.

I am one more with problem on the iOS6 - Ipad3 to connect  internet by wi fi. Incredible as these companies earn much money with products without enough tests to ensure these solutions work, just work.
