Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment.  Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore.   I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password"  (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues.  My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

    > a IOS issue?

Considering I, too, upgraded to this iOS on my iPad 3 and have had no issue with wifi whatsoever, I'd say the issue is with the individual's use of the OS, perhaps an incomplete or corrupted download and/or install, who knows?  n.b. I did the upgrade via connecting the iPad to a computer.

    Barbican:

Great insight, and for me the most encouraging post I have read. Apple in and effort to not hurt the release of their most anticipated iPad mini, will probably release it and sneak in the wifi fix without going public about the Wi Fi problem. Then sneak us the updated software while the world raves about the iPad mini. We all will be happy and they will have thousands of new customers. Nice PR but still kinda unfair to us loyal customers.

Having problems with my iphone 4s on Verizon network since updating to ios6.  My son didn't update his phone and he is fine.  Mine keeps getting "stuck" in the middle of applications, Siri doesn't work and it keeps dropping my wifi connection.  All non-issues on previous operating system and since my son's phone is on ios5.1 and he is fine, guess what Apple - you screwed up!!!  I want my ios 5.1 back.  Anyone know if I can go back to the old software?  Called Apple Care - they don't know anything just told me to restore phone and or reset.  Great fix.  Apple is in total denial and thinks we are fools.

This may be my last Apple product unless they can get this fixed very soon.

Great news!   But where does it leave all those who have insisted the problem is related to the router? Gee...

@Masolino No, nothing to do with the upgrade being performed OTA versus downloaded via computer. Mine was OTA but another member in my household performed hers the same as you. Her wifi won't stay connected longer than 5-seconds on any known or new network. I wish it was something as simple as a performing a new ios6 download, unfortunately it's not. There are way too many users being affected for this to be just a handful of people who didn't perform the update properly.

I've been employed by a wireless telecommunications company for 10-years so I'm pretty savvy when it comes to these things (not bragging or being snarky, just stating that I'm knowledgeable). Sadly, ios6 is another example of a thrown together apple update that wasn't  properly tested. If apple would stop suing every Tom, Dick and Harry over copyright infringements and put that money into software testing the world would be a better place.

What would we be saying if Android rolled out a janky software update like this rendering countless tablets and smartphones useless? Think about it.

Thank you for the suggestion though. It is one thing many have not thought of, but it's not an OTA issue. Thanks.

After weeks of frustration with my iPhone 4 I spotted a post suggesting to change the wireless authentication on my router to WPA2 (no TKIP).  I don't know if it was that or the factory reset I did on the router first, but not my wifi is working perfectly (throws salt over shoulder and touches wood), up to about 60 hours now and plenty of previously impossible actvity.  App store and Facebook, which were the worst 2, are behaving perfectly.

If you haven't already tried this it could be worth it.

I can understand people's frustration, I made the switch to apple about a month after the iPhone4s came out after reading how great the phones were. So far the annoying problems have ruined the experience.

    1) After seeing the advert for Siri I was sold, I went and got it, set it up, asked Siri a question from the advert, "Sorry I can only look for U.S businesses and things using U.S English, try search the web" :O

Now I'm pretty sure the UK advert didn't say that, how misleading! After going to local apple store a couple of times when will this be sorted out, not one person knew.

It's only taken them to release a new phone before they've updated. Is this supposed to be the great Apple I read about?

    2) If I'm listening to music and someone rings me i can talk to them about 30 seconds before it cuts my voice off on there end and they no longer hear me. I have to unplug headphones and call them back. Doesn't sound normal is it?

    3) Siri finally gets updated to find at the release of a new phone, so soon after I bought mine? Now sometimes I have trouble with Internet on 3G and Wifi and it doesn't load up a page for hours.

I tied myself into my first ever contract for this? So I've just left the feedback about all this to see it says "we don't need to contact you about your feedback" Are they serious? I expected some kind of response at least to tell me what the heck is going on! They seem quite happy to hoy phones out but when you have a problem they aren't interested! So far, my apple experience has been a downhill slope.

:-)  Regarding routers, mine was a few year old Linksys (with latest firmware).  All the tips/tricks mentioned didn't work for me (resetting the router, clearing network settings, etc.).  I was considering a new router anyway, so I just bought their latest model, EA4500, and same problem exists using WPA2.  On the 2.4GHz frequency I dumbed it down to WEP security, and my iOS devices can keep a connection.  On my 5GHz band I kept it WPA2, and still have the problem when connected to that SSID.  So I'm personally convinded the iOS 6 upgrade tinkered with the WiFi security/encryption in some way. Hopefully 6.0.1 will provide the fix we're all needing.

BTW, I discovered I have the same connectivity problem at Starbucks so it's not just home routers like Netgear or Linksys.

    Yes,

my iPad 2 (wifi + 3G model) hasnt been able to connect to the wifi in my home since I performed the update

The wifi switch isnt "greyed out" as others have stated but I put in the password and it just wont connect

I checked the firmware on my D-Link DI-625 wireless-n router but it's the latest version available (albeit dated 2006)

Whats worse is while it attempts to connect anything else connected wirelessly (such as a laptop) all drop connection as well! This all happended immediately updating to iOS6 a few days ago. Meanwhile I have had no choice but to use 3G whenever I use my ipad and will likely incur data overages.

I plan to send the bill to APPLE!!

WHY havnt they issued a patch already???????

So apple replaced my defunct iPad 3 / ios6 with a new iPad and lo and behold it has 5.1.1 on it. Works awesome and things are instantly back to my old stable apple life. Unfortunately going from a 6 backup , the 5.1.1 could not see the iCloud backup to restore so had to do a lot of manual entering. Apple tech on the phone and at the genius bar both instructed me to under no circumstances upgrade to 6 even though it keeps prompting me to do so untill ; I quote ( do not upgrade until you are comfortable that the issues users are seeing are dealt with in a software upgrade to 6 which will be released at a unknown later date) So I am happily using 5.1.1 and one day may see a upgrade.
