Same problem here using Windows Vista Home. iPhone 4, iPad2, Apple TV and iTunes 10.7. Apple TV 5.1 fix?
Seems like everytime I click on Done after creating the Home Share in iTunes Home Sharing crashes. If I sign in/out works for a little while. Think this same problem Home Sharing problem existed in previous iTunes version. Was hoping it would be fixed in iTunes 10.7. Maybe a limit on the number of devices supported under Home Sharing?
ScopeGuy45 & All,
Similar experience with Home Sharing on iPad 2 following iOS 6 upgrade.
Able to access "share" library from VIDEO app but none of my movies in iTunes are visible.
Instead, a black screen telling me I can purchase movies from iTunes Store.
Also able to access share library from MUSIC app but only able to see (and play) 63 songs of 5,000+ songs.
Sanity check on iPad 1 running iOS 5.1 - Home Sharing works normally - no glitches noted.
Able to access both VIDEO and MUSIC libraries on iPad 1.
Win 7 Pro
iOS 5.1 on iPad 1
iOS 6.0 on iPad 2
Yesterday the Senior Apple Support Advisor I reported this issue to phoned me to say she has not heard back from her tech department. I initially reported this around 5PM on Friday. Also told me she does not work again until this coming Friday and that she will phone me again on status.
I did not press at the time because it has been just a few days at best and that was the weekend. When she calls me next time I will press and ask her to review again this thread to see the added entries since last Friday. In searching the web for iOS 6 problems I did note that some of the on-line magazines are starting to list this as a problem, he Map App being the no. 1 issue listed. I still believe you all should start your own case with Apple Support, the more support is pressed, the more they must realize they have a major issue to repair. Word of caution, the first level you will speak with will not be helpful. Make sure you let them know you already have reset, rebooted, re-everything and you must speak to their supervisor or a more senior advisor; otherwise they will just try to send you a bunch of crap to read about Home Sharing as if its your problem ... Unless of course they are asking the first level aware of the issue now. The Advisor I'm now working with is very knowledgeable and her understanding of the issue is excellent. However, I believe the more advisors aware of the issue the better.
I am disappointed there is no word yet from Apple. An official public statement probably will not happen, part of the secrecy and arrogance of their corporate culture. However, I am heartened that the Advisor proactively is keeping me informed.
I'll post another reply when I discuss this with her next time we speak. If I do not hear from her on Friday, I will call her Saturday AM. Note my time zone is PDT.
Of course Apple could release 6.0.1 before Friday fixing all our issues ... Probably not. This secrecy crap Apple has may be the straw that causes me to switch hardware in he future. I've really become disgusted with the whole Apple personna BS. Samsung and Amazon have devices I need to take closer looks at, including the whole Android OS options. Apple's devices have a strong resale value and might possibly offset the entire switch, should I finally decide to go that way. Again, I've earned the right to vent and complain, as all the rest of you have should you choose to do the same.
I don't want to be a learned informed user ... I just want to enjoy my media.
Regards to all,
I love this story about Jobs and love to imagine his reaction to the bugs in iOS6.
In regard to MobileMe:
After reports of crashing servers, laggardly logons, and general crappiness, Jobs tongue-lashed the MobileMe team, asking them "Can anyone tell me what MobileMe is supposed to do?" When one foolhardy exec explained the aim of the service, Jobs shot back: "So why the f*#k doesn't it do that?!?"
If you have an iDevice less than a year old you should go to the Apple Website, support, contact Apple Suport, "Get Started". Check the appropriate options, choose other if you cannot find the issue described, then get a case number and tell them how you want to connect to support.
Else, you can try the following numbers I located on the contact support worldwide. I found the following info for the U.S.
