Shure microphone with garageband?

I think with a mic like that it's going to need a pre amp (to power it). This is why it's not working- as the laptop doesnt have the power to send through the line in port. Use a mixer with phantom power and an audio interface or get a mic preamp with an audio interface.

Its still a very large microphone to be using for the measly power output of the audio port on your computer. Have you tried running it through an external audio interface yet?

It might not need phantom but nonetheless will require some power to run it.

As stated dynamic mics don't need power they create their own current. A mic alone may not have a hot enough signal and would benefit from a pre amp.
