Tried zamgwd's clock recommendation and sure enough, I had a forever spinng wheel, so I turned it OFF.

I also tried another suggestion someone recommended...

On my iPhone 4 using IOS6.01 under iCloud settings, I turned OFF iCal, cleared calendar from iPhone and turned it back ON under iCloud again.  It merged by iPhone empty calendar from iCloud master at Apple someplace and almost immediately, my iPhone soppoed running HOT and battery life seems to be what I was used to under previous versions of IOS.

I'm now at 2  1/2 hours of standby mode and 21 minutes of use.  Battery is at 97%.  Previous to the changes I made above, I would have been down to 60% by now and the standby and usage figures would have been almost the same, inidcating that something was running constantly in the background.

Just my experience for what it's worth ....

    Regards,

    Doug

Thank you DavidG74.  Your solution worked for me.  It seems the only real way to get rid of the ios 6 battery drain is to have a clean install of iPhone apps on a factory restored phone.

Here is my account of this effort.

I experienced the same rapid discharge of my iP4's battery after the update to iOS 6  (Specifically, it was the update to 6.0.1 that really brought the discharge issue to my attention. I noticed the more rapid discharge after the update to iOS 6.0 but thought it was just my phone getting older.) I was lucky to get half a day out of the phone. After doing some research, I found this article (http://tidbits.com/article/13303). Adam Engst discribed my problem almost perfectly. Not being a newbie by a long shot, I had tried most of what he suggested save for the reset as a "new phone" and the firmware update. Long story short, I did the new phone and firmware reset and manually reviewed and reinstalled my apps. I now get two days on a charge. That's even better than when the phone was new. It's definitely faster and more reliable. It's so good now, maybe I won't even upgrade to the "5" ;-).

i think the spinning wheel bug happens when you disabled the preference that allows the use of gps to get your local time zone in the privacy tab.

If i enable that preference (found in privacy tab, scrolling at the bottom of the page) i get immediately my time zone detected.

Nie try anyway. thanks for the suggestion

I restricted Safari on my iphone as Ios 6 was causing WEBBOOKMARKSD to constantly run in the backround even after Safari is closed.  I now use google chrome. Thats great for a few minutes but whenever I switch any of my networks, from 4g to LTE or Wifi whatever.... the proccess comes back!! How is that possible and why would that happen?  Again, safari is restricted ... I don't understand.  I don't have icloud or anything.

I noticed my iPhone 4s getting really hot and then the battery running out within 4 hours.  I have a hand full of apps I have done all of the usual things such as turning off notifications, hourly fetches for email, deleted nearly all my apps now and switching off as many services as possible.  My iPhone may as well be a feature phone what a load of rubbish.  What the point of a modile phone that has to be constantly attached to the power socket.  My wife's and daughter's   Galaxy 3 is looking good right now they have no problems. very one I tlked to has the same problem.

I agree! Ever since the upgrade it is terrible!!  Also, reception seems worse, which further drains the battery and causes it to run hot.  All the suggestions on this blog say to turn off virtually every feature that makes it an iphone! The point is, BEFORE the iOS6 update, all these things worked!  I could stream music, check facebook, text like crazy,  and still leave work at 5 with 50% battery left.  Now my phone completely dies multiple times per day.  I feel like it's some evil plot to get us all to upgrade to the iphone 5. Can we revert back to iOS5?

    same for me!

The iOS 6.0.1 for iPhone 4 is an absolute impertinence, I feel totally deceived by apple! They try to force obsolescence of old equipment. Under ios 5 everything worked fine. For me I find no improvements in iOS 6!

Misserabel is the battery draining faster, although all services are turned off? who pays for my faster aging battery? (icloud is off, local search off, manual sync off). Google sync no longer works reliably. Sometimes it still works, often not. The additional calendar you can not edit from iphone. Tragic! I have already restored everything and I deleted all accounts, use m.google.com/sync to enable. An enormous effort of time, no one pays me that which makes me very ungry! The hot spot via usb no longer works. google map was better before. A downgrade to the working ios 5 is not possible! I feel totally deceived.

Apple has become a bad reference which thinks only of profit. Really sad Conclusion!

To jdm_Justin...if you have 54% after 2 hrs use and 12 hr standby on a used phone, you are having better battery than I ever had on a new iphone. I don't think you have any issues with ios6...

    Just FYI.

turns out to be i'm not the only one having this problem. I HOPE, the next update will fix this issue. they should not tell people that ios 6 is compatible with 4s/4g when its not!

So i've learned - something in ios6 is causing something to be sent over and over and over  (could be email account, could be wifi, tough to know) but its likely something being sent over and over through a network thats causing the battery drain.
