Q: Converting NTSC content to PAL

Hello there,

 

Recently the company that I work got one client from Europe and they will need a digital PAL video source. I was wondering how can I convert an HD content from NTSC to PAL using FCP... And also the diferences between them, becouse I saw some infos over Google but any of them give me an info of digital files, only the ones that are on a fisical media like DVD.

 

So, there is two clients envolved. I'm receiving this material source, with this definition to convert to PAL:

 

- Coded of videio: Avid DNxHD (17.5 MB/s)

- NTSC source

- HD (1080x1920)

- It's a ".mov" file

- This video formart is supported on FCP by an plugin that the client gave us.

 

I need to transcode/convert the file to one of this HD possibilities:

I was wondering if I only  define the definitions of export to : H.264 (50MBs) / 25 fps / 1080x1920 and etc. It will give me an PAL file... or there is more things to do!?

 

I tried to do some of those things but I'm not felling secure to proceed with this material...

    Try customizing the apple:  formats:  quicktime:  h264 to match these settings.   Not sure you're gonna be able to match all these settings exactly, but I find people often request stuff and if you can match it as close as possible, it may be ok.  Seems like you can submit an h-264 .mov.  They're giving you choices for the "wrapper"  Don't think compressor will do mxf or HD mpg2s, so I think h264 qt is you're only choice.  You can open an h264 in mpegstreamclip and save it to mp4 (which just changes the wrapper) but don't think that's necessary here. 

     

    Not sure about fromat profile for h264.  Probably need to do some googling for that.  Wikipedia's a great resource for that.

    There was a law here in Australia that allowed you to have any NTSC video you purchased converted/copied to PAL, (and just one copy), because most VCRs didn't have PAL/NTSC playback. (And many people bought them OS, not knowing they wouldn't playback locally). Later the high court declared that region coding was anti-competitive after which all DVD Players had to be nade region free by the manufacture before sale. (Blu-ray missed out being included in the legislation).

     

    As for "A. Copying commercial DVDs - No Not possibly at all" someone better tell the people over at the "Apps Store"; and as for "- Not even legal to discuss"; well the day your government tells you that even the discussion of something is "illegal", that's the day you should shout it from the rooftops!

    Bengt is referring to the terms of use for this forum, which we all agreed to when signing up...

    Thanks for the info Nick, but I think you missed the overall point of what I was saying.

     

    And as to why the discussion on this thread turned from the question raised in the original post to the ripping of DVDs you'd have to ask Bengt Warleby why he felt it was necessary to bring it up. Prior to that post there was no discussion of it at all.

     

    Finally; maybe one day someone will explain to me why you're not allowed to discuss a topic on this Apple forum when software to do exactly that is available to download from the Apple App store.

     

    And I'll leave this discussion at that.

    Hey guys, I read your discussion and I am about to make some tests on both Compressor and JES following your instructions. My original video is Apple Prores 1080i 60 and I need to generate a Apple Prores 1920x1080i 50. My question is - does the 50 stand for frame rate in the Compressor attributes or fields?
