My boyfriend is having the bluetooth problem after upgrade to ios 6 on his 4S which is why I haven't upgraded and won't buy an iphone 5 until this issue is resolved.  I NEED my bluetooth.  I called apple support where I was informed that this is not a heavily reported problem   Judging by these posts, I think it probably is.  It was suggested I go to http://apple.com/feedback/iphone and report this problem.  apparently they aren't scanning the forums as they should at Apple and need to be prodded.  They'll fix it if enough people complain.  Complain to the right source, folks.

Went to the iPhone5 e-brochure and found the only reference to bluetooth in the tech specs. This referred to Bluetooth 4.0.

Researched this version and found that it is a very low energy version useful for near field devices. The main advantage to the iPhone is the reduced energy load on an already stretched battery life. New devices that support Bluetooth 4.0 are coming out slowly. But this means replacing older? devices, unless they have a firmware upgrade available which are available for really expensive items.

And then try finding out if the new headset supports bluetooth 4.0 as the literature  that comes eith the unit doesn't say

You had better try them in the shop before buying

@Nowsthetime, your iPhone feedback link doesn't work.  Maybe that's why Apple isn't getting heavy reports of the problem.

I for one, darn near bit-off the ear of an Apple support rep.  My 4S bluetooth functionality with a Kenwood DNX9990HD (2012 top-of-the-line nav car system) and a 2013 Camaro 2SS RS (two different vehicles) isn't what it was before iOS 6.0.

They have stated that iOS6 complies with the most recent Bluetooth standards, and they don't view reverse compatibility with 'legacy' equipment as their issue.  Expensive products; mediocre customer service.

Since I'm on a two year plan with my cellphone carrier, I have to wait until June to get another phone.  At this point, it won't be an iPhone.  I'm done.

Yes, the link doesn't work but I clicked through the site and submitted one last (my 4th) feedback note. I can't believe we've been complaining about this since September. If I don't get a response I'm done. Here it is:

Myself and many other frustrated IPhone 5 customers on the Apple Support Forum (Re: iOS 6 Bluetooth problem) have been struggling with a lack of Bluetooth connectivity across multiple devices since the phone was released with iOS 6. Personally, it has been crippling to not be able to connect to my car system to speak on the phone to my patients while driving. As a group we've lodged multiple inquires with Apple online, at Genius Bars in retail stores and with individual device makers.  With the exception of a small handful of device makers offering still to be released firmware updates, no solutions have been offered. Adding insult to injury is the fact that many inquires to Apple have denied the existence of this problem or have gone unanswered. I have already written 3 messages to Apple and have yet to receive a reply.  I have been a loyal customer of yours and ask you for a reply, explanation and plan to resolve this issue.  It would be wise to read the aforementioned forum to understand the full scope of this issue.

I am eagerly awaiting your reply.

    Sincerely,

    JS, MD

Maybe it is time to go to retailers and get them to prove that their products work. If they don't woek, then the retailer will be stuck with a load of over priced junk. The retailers may have a louder voice than users.

I own an iPad 1st generation wifi+3g since day 1. I bought the beats wireless bluetooth headphones and have been using them for about 3 months which worked perfectly and great with no issues.

Now I have recently bought an apple mini Ipad with ios 6.0.1..and i have tried to use it with the exact same headphones and almost immediately problems arose. Pauses in songs, delays, ans even cuts off while trying to keep up with syncs with video. Music not so much noticeable but while watching a video it is clearly noticeable. I tried resetting device and pairing with no satisfy able results. Please apple fix this problem! I almost thought it was a bad headset. But when I tested it with my 1st generation iPad it works perfectly. (I am using it now as I type and the typing sound is still going on even when I am physically finished typing!) OMG..this is so annoying lol!

I have sent an issue notice to apple support request email. I'm hoping they'll get back to me and I can post what their solution to this problem is in their reply. Clearly a lot people are having issues and it needs to be resolved. I am just dumbfounded that apple isn't doing anything to help people with their issues. I guess my expensive headphones will just have to be used in wired mode to accommodate my listening needs until a solution arises.

I hope a lot of people won't get too frustrated with this ongoing problem.

After going through so many frustrations, I finally able to get my Bluetooth connected with my iPhone. I was surprise and for a few moments, I couldn’t even remember what I did to get it connected & sync. Isn’t that always the case though?? LoL

But you can try these combinations of things I got from the feedback/support discussion. Thank you for all of your input!!

    1. Make sure both iPhone & Bluetooth are charged
    2. Turn on Airplane mode
    3. Settings/General/Bluetooth
    4. Turn it On
    5. Paired
    6. After it is paired, keep holding the Bluetooth button until it is connected.
    7. Bluetooth is on & now there’s a new icon on the iPhone that shows how much charge there is on the Bluetooth—that was a pleasant surprise! Does anybody else have this icon on their iPhone. That is going to be useful in determining how much charge does the bluetooth has while your on the phone.
    8. Cross your fingers & pray that it will work continuously.

I didn’t get to enter any pin #, I don’t know why that is but I don’t care as long as it works.

    Good Luck!!!

it worked on my boyfriend's 4s running ios 6, using a magnavox bluetooth headset AND a bluetooth speaker in his car.  That's good enough for me.  I'll upgrade.
