Waking from Sleep issues with 10.8.2, MBA (2010)

I have a 2010 MBA which I just updated to 10.8.2. Now, 10.8.1 did some funny things with recovering from sleep, but is was mainly just a delay. In the four times that I've open up my MBA from sleep, I've had to restart/reboot every time. Once, I had a bunch of screen static, rebooted. three other times, the machine just automatically restarted and prompted to send error information to Apple.

Anyone else having trouble waking from sleep since 10.8.2?

I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro with similar issues. Two days in a row, since upgrading to 10.8.2, my MBP has had problems waking from sleep. Both times, the issue showed up when trying to wake it the first thing in the morning - I wasn't having problems during the day.

Here's what I'm seeing. MBP is sleep - no problem (pulsating light). Open lid, pulsating light goes out, but screen stays completely blank. Wait.. Wait... nothing (5 mins). Close lid, .. sleeping (pulsating light). Open lid. Light goes out. Blank screen. Give up... press power button to force it to power off. Restart, and everything's cool.

jadewocky describes exactly what I'm experiencing with my late 2009 MacBook Pro since I upgraded to 10.8.2. Whenever I put it to sleep, there's no way to get anything displayed on the screen after waking it up again. It just stays black. I can see and hear, that it's awake (kind-of, because I also can't connect to it over the network), but somethings wrong with the graphics output to the display after waking up from sleep.

So the only solution so far is to shutdown my MacBook Pro instead of putting it to sleep, which is very annoying.

I spent some time on the phone with Apple this weekend. We went through a few test cases and at least in my case, it seemed to relate to the computer trying to sleep my SSD, possibly relating to the fact that I have an NVidia Graphics card. I setup a separate partition on a non-SSD drive and installed 10.8.2 on that partitition to attempt to replicate the problem.

In both cases the issue was not present if I turned off "Put Hard Disks to sleep when possible". I wasn't able to test the case of a non-SSD with that checkbox on, but I hope to if I have time. While this isn't a firm answer, this is the information I'm passing to Apple and hopefully turning off that option will provide a temporary solution. If you have an SSD, you can just turn that off entirely since sleeping an SSD should have no effect anyways.

I have this problem with my mid-2012 Mac Pro and OS X 10.8.2. It did NOT appear with 10.8 or 10.8.1. And I do have my system on two internal SSDs configured as RAID 0 (concatenated). By configuring my system to never sleep, the problem has disappeared. I don't view that as much of a solution, when it appears that witih previous versions of the system Apple was able to allow the computer to sleep without having the ability to wake up from sleep disappear. Does anyone from Apple ever read these boards?

Suggested this on the other thread as well:

I'd be curious to see, does this occur with all types of sleep occurrences?

Macs will go to sleep 1 of 3 ways:

1. Software timeout sleep

2. Clicking  > Sleep

3. Hardware mechanisms: On portables closing the lid activates a magnetic sleep switch, on desktops quickly pressing the power button sends it to sleep.

Anyone willing to post a copy of their logs from after attempting to sleep? If so:

1. Mark the time you put the system to sleep

2. After a reboot open Applications > Utilities > Console

3. Under kernel.log, provide the logs from the time your system went to sleep, till whatever the current time is.

Might be interesting to see if there's some weird issue causing the systems not to enter sleep correctly.
