Q: I upgraded my iPad to iOS 6 - having problems with iCloud email.

I upgraded my iPad to iOS 6 and noticed that my @me email was changed to @iCloud. However I get error messages when trying to send or receive using my @iCloud address. Says can't find address. How do I get my @iCloud address to work?

iPad 2, iOS 6

When you go to Settings>iCloud does the account name also say @iCloud?  Also, are you currently syncing your data (such as contacts, etc.) with this new account?

I have a non-Apple email as my Apple ID. Both my @me and @iCloud email addresses show up under email in settings.

All my data (contacts etc.) are synced to my Apple ID.

If your @me email address still appears as an account in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars try going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...scroll down to the Mail section and tap Default Account, then select your @me.com address as your default.  Then try sending an email and see if it now selects your @me email address to send from.

Thanks. That solved part of my problem.....now I can send email.

However, I'm still wondering why I can't use my @iCloud address. The address was automatically created by Apple, yet it doesn't work. Why would Apple create an email address that doesn't work?

That I can't answer.  I've never heard of a @iCloud account and I doubt if the @iCloud.com domain even exists.  I wonder if it was a glitch in the update process.  My @me.com address was maintained as my only address after the update process.

Just noticed this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5441.  I hadn't seen this before.  Apparently the @icloud.com address is being added to your account, but won't be active for a few weeks.  Your @me.com address will continue to work; you can decide if you want to use the other one or not.  (I never got this new account, not sure why.)
