pList editing in iOS 5 and restoring with iBackupBot on a non-jailbroken iPhone has never worked for me. Something always resets the APNs to the default "phone" one. It does the same thing in iOS 6 too.

The only way I can get data & MMS working on a non-jailbroken iPhone is by:

1. Opening the Notes app (or any other stock app)

2. Going to Settings > General > Network

3. Taking the Straight Talk SIM out and putting in a T-Mobile SIM (can be brand new & unactivated. mines is)

4. Go into Cellular Data Network when it shows up

5. Immediately put the Straight Talk SIM back in

6. Multitask between Cellular Data Network and the Notes app back and forth until a signal from Straight Talk comes in and the default non-working data & MMS APN are automatically entered.

7. Once the APNs show up, edit them manually

8. Go toggle Airplane Mode on and off, and reboot the phone

Data and MMS now work fine.

I can confirm 100% that this method still works in iOS 6 GM.

Google "Straight Talk iPhone HowardForums Wiki" and what I explained above is on that page too. The entire site is down as of this post so I explained it as best as I could.

I'm sorry the settings above need to be adjusted to include...

MMS UA Prof URL:http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

Also the section that refers to Airplane mode helps to retain the settings.

I was able to turn the phone off and back on multiple times and still retain the APN settings with data and MMS working.

I think the MMS Profurl setting is necessary to make MMS function properly and retain as such.

so again it's ...

Bro,

Just call customer care, and ask them to reset everything. It really worked for me.

I wasn't able to access cellular data or even text! I called them 4 times. The last rep was really awesome and she helped me out. No need to download anything or change APN. May you would like to visit the websites below through safari browser of your iphone, if you really want to change the APN

1) http://www.unlockit.co.nz

2) http://bigwireless.us/wap/stdata.html

I don't think you will need anything else. It's just how you deal with customer care rep to get your purpose solved!!

Thanks,

PD

I had the same problem with my unlocked iPhone 4 after upgrading to iOS 6 using Straight Talk. I figured out a fix and posted a Step By Step guide as to exactly what i did and it seems to be working for other people too.

check it out at: http://www.jgmedia.biz/how-to-get-data-and-mms-working-on-straight-talk-iphone-4 -and-iphone-4s-on-ios-6-updated-sim-swap-method/

You don't need to jailbreak, edit any files, or do a restore. You just "trick" the phone into letting you access the settings you need to change while the ST SIM is in it. This was called the "SIM swap method" before so i just updated this method. I can't take credit for the idea to begin with.

The sim swap worked well for me with my 4s locked to AT&T with ios 6 (released). I had trouble with the "activation required" immediately after putting the t-mobile sim in. I discovered under settings -> General, when you put the sim in, "carrier detect" appears. If I went to "carrier detect" and switched "auto" off, then I was able to continue the process as given in the post. It gave me a much bigger window to switch sims before the "activation required" popped up.

That's what the post above was for to address the MMS UA Prof URL.... (This should fix your iMessage)

Make sure you turn off iMessage and back on to reactivate once you have the MMS UA Prof URL setting in your APN settings configured. (Some times a Reboot is nessisary)
