    FreddieMac,

Yes, pic messages are still working.  After I made my entries per boonsfarm's values, I hit the "settings" back arrow (top left) until I got to the "Airplane mode" screen, then turned airplane mode "on", counted to 20, turned it "off".  Repeated that another time.  Then I tried to send a picture message to a family member's phone.  When that finally worked, I turned the phone off and back on, and then tried another picture message.

When that worked, I backed up the phone thru iTunes in case it ever dissappeared on me.

I tried everything as well and finally found the answer.  I called Straight Talk & they had not yet given my account all the privileges to use data.  It only took them a few minutes.  They asked me to turn off my phone.  Then they gave me privileges on their end.  They told me to restart my phone, and then voila data worked.  Next, to get both data & mms working, I did the sim swap method here: http://www.jgmedia.biz/how-to-get-data-and-mms-working-on-straight-talk-iphone-4 -and-iphone-4s-on-ios-6-updated-sim-swap-method/  (I put in the additional Apple info i.e. http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf)

This got everything working like a charm.  I thought I was going to pull my hair out, but it was a simple as giving my carrier a call.  Hope this helps a few of you.

I used the Howard WIKI succesfully, I found that if I check for an update in the IPhone caused the APN setting to go blank, I had to repeat the steps. IPhone 4S on 6.0.1

"Waiting for Activation" can take several hours or longer to finally activate with your phone number for iMessage.

    )

Mine has been working perfectly without it for months.

That IS a Straight Talk SIM provisioning issue. Demand they re-provision your SIM card.

Regular text (SMS) messaging should work with zero effort on your part. That's why any good sites you find that give instructions for getting data and MMS working will instruct you to make sure calling and basic texting (SMS) works before proceeding.

Follow the steps on this site.

It works best if your iPhone is unlocked.

You'll need a T-Mobile or Verizon SIM card.

I spent 3hrs on the phone with Straight talk. I will spare you that. They went through troubleshooting forever. Finally I got a manager and repeated the same steps. He finally said that he would just send me a new SIM card. I got it yesterday and so far so good. You will still need to do the sim swap for data and mms. When you change your new sim, turn the phone off, put the new Sim in and then turn it on.

Hope this helps. Don't waste your time with the customer rep because they at first told me it was the phone. Ask for the manager to start with.

To clarify for anyone who is still having any problems doing this.

    1.  Unlock your phone with the carrier ( I know the process will work if it is jail broken but I am assuming you dont want to void the warranty on your phone) NOTE: even if you purchased the phone outright at Wal-Mart it is still locked to ATT so you will have to unlock the phone.

1a Here is the link to unlock a ATT iphone.  Simply follow the instructions https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/

    2.  Get a T- mobile SIM.  Even if you don't want the service, if you feign interest, they will send you one for free or 99cents.  If you need it now you can get one at a T-mobile store too.

    3.  Once you have both your Straight talk SIM and your T-mobile SIM follow these instructions:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFFf5uqk18M

    4.  If you have any remaining questions look at all the responses posted previously on this thread or check out the Howard Forums Wiki: http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Straight_Talk_iPhone

Everything should work flawlessly at this point. I hope this makes doing this very easy for everyone in the future.  God Bless -J

I belive the straight talk iphones at wall mart are unlocked.

However there is no such thing as a fully unlocked iPhone and Jailbreak + app is the only solution to restore functionality that is barred when using ATT issued SIM cards. This also gives access to all APN settings etc.

When you insert a SIM from ATT or any ATT related SIM (Straight Talk, Net 10, H2O etc) the phone applies a carrier profile for ATT regardless if you are with ATT or not. For example this include enabling an App that checks against a server if you are allowed to use the hot spot feature. ATT wants to charge extra for using the data you already paid for outside the phone itself. Shame on Apple that helps them control this also on full price unlocked devices. With almost any other carrier this is not the case, 99% of Carriers allow you to use the data you pay for anyway you want.

WP8 also has a similar setup and there is no jailbreak here to restore the hotspot feature
