Q: @me to @icloud conversion. Email reserved?

So with iOS 6 I am aware that all @me accounts will be changed to an @icloud of the same name. For example, if your email was abc123@me.com it would become abc123@icloud.com

How... "reserved" are these new emails? Like is it possible that somebody could have already taken abc123@icloud.com before the conversion process goes through?

They are not actually changing. iCloud.com email addresses are being added to existing accounts as an additional address that you can choose to use or not.

 

If you already have abc123@me.com, no can sign up for iCloud as abc123@icloud.com. That user name would already be in use, by you.
