Calendar not working after upgrade to iOS 6

After updating my iPhone 4s to iOS 6 last night the calendar is broken for want of a better word. Adding iCloud, Exchange or Gmail calendars does nothing. I can only occasionally try to add an event (most of the time the + symbol is missing). If I get to that point it doesn't keep the name of the event and then crashes.

I tried a hard reset and then resorted to a restore but the same issues persisted. I can set the calendars to on in settings but nothing will make them appear in the calendar.

I also can't add my exchange account at all. It verifies and then disappears.

Any ideas? My iPad 2 is fine!

I'm having a similar issue. E-mail works fine, but calendars do not sync and just spins, draining the battery very quickly. I tried to turn off Calendars for my Exchange 2003 account and after 15 minutes it still had not completed. I powered down the phone and back on. I could get it turned off, but when I enabled it again, it still spins.

I got an iPhone 5 and used the iCloud to restore to it. My Exchange account did not come over at all, but my Hotmail did, without Calendars enabled. When I enable them, same thing happens.

If I go into the calendar List view, I see lots of "New Events" starting at 12 am filling the calendar constantly going back to early 2011. I only have it set to sync 2 weeks back and all future appointments, so something is buggy. I even deleted all items from that calendar and it still is trying to sync. Since it happens with both Hotmail only and Exchange, I don't think it relates to my Exchange server being the problem, but the calendar module being corrupt.

I'm guessing that setting up the phone as a new device would fix it, but ruins the elegance of the process.

This sounds like exactly the same behaviour I've experienced with the calendar. I'm entirely sure that it wasn't a problem with either gmail or exchange accounts and was the calendar module itself. Bizarre.

The issue is now sorted as I've set up the phone as a new device but as you said, it does rather ruin the elegance of the process!

I'm yet to see whether this has fixed the battery life issue...

I wiped my iPhone 5 and did another restore from iCloud, but instead of the most recent from last night, I took the one from before I installed iOS 6 on my iPhone 4. It has restored and my calendar data is there and updating.

It is still downloading apps, so I can't tell if battery life is better right now, but I'm happier with this option than to do a complete start from scratch.

Had exactly the same symptoms including no [Calendars] and [+] buttons (or those buttons appearing and disappearing frequently). calaccessd process is crashing and restarting frequently leaving the crash dump which is probably responsible for dying battery. If you turn all the calendars off then the battery life is normal and there are no crashes (and no calendars). Cannot add events in the local calendar - the calendar app (UI) crashes. I have restored to factory settings using iTunes and restored from the newest iCloud backup (presumably from just before the iOS6 upgrade) and that did not resolve the trouble. I will now try to wipe all again and try an earlier backup. I guess I am and the end of my wits on this so if this does nto work I will have to start from scratch.

Checked on iCloud.com and the calendars were still there. Erased them and started new calendar on iCloud.com, tried to add that and sync with it, no luck - same symptoms as before.

Add to this useless new maps (on iPhone4 there is not even the 3D sugar to sweeten the loss of all the walking and biking trails). Not a good day for Apple.

Thanks MallocArray. This seems to have finally solved it for me. I had to be patient while restoring from the oldest iCloud backup that I was offered (2 days ago) and it is still downloading photos and the rest, but the calendars all synced and all work with no crashes. I hope this helps everybody on this thread.

Varkha has the symptoms dead on. I was missing the + to add new appointments, events appearing and disappearing randomly.

I upgraded my wife's 3GS to iOS 6 after resolving my issue, and hers syncs to the same calendars I use, and she had no problem.

ArtSpot mentioned the Do Not Disturb feature and I did play with that right after upgrading and wonder if it caused the issue. I'm hesitant to play with it again.
