Sep 20, 2012 5:49 PM in response to climbflaby randers4,Just to make sure I understand you correctly, are you saying that you now have a different iCloud account set up on your phone, and that in Settings>iCloud you have everything but Mail and Notes turned to On?

Sep 20, 2012 5:59 PM in response to randers4by climbfla,I wanted to change my apple id on my icloud because the one I had on my phone 4 was from an old email account, and i was not able to log into icloud anymore. so i read on one of the forums that i needed to delete my current one in order to change the apple id on it.... which i did. With my new email (current apple ID) and my apple ID password i tried syncing again, but i lost all my contacts. everything else on my phone is fine. when u asked me about what was turned on on settings>icloud, only the mail and notes were turned to off position

Sep 20, 2012 6:04 PM in response to climbflaby randers4,If you had been syncing you contacts with your old iCloud account before, there's a good chance the contacts are still in this older account. (Deleting an account from your phone only deletes it from your phone, not from iCloud.) Did you say that you could no longer log into iCloud on your old account? Why is that? (The reason I ask is that if you can log into your old account you may be able to recover your contacts from it.)

Sep 20, 2012 6:11 PM in response to randers4by climbfla,i had to change it because i could no longer access the old email that was set up on my phone because i could no longer remember the password So i changed my apple ID and password, and it was working just fine. the problem occurred when i updated to iOS6, I was able to change the ID to the new mail on everything, like app store, itunes, but not on Icloud. it kept showing the old email there. So i read on the apple forum that in order to fix that i'd need to delete the current icloud account on the phone and sync again with a new apple ID. note: the only thing i changed was the apple id. the apple id password was still the same

Sep 20, 2012 6:23 PM in response to climbflaby randers4,★HelpfulWell if you can no longer access your old iCloud account then I don't see how you're going to recover your contacts. What you read was correct, the fix was to delete the old account, but first you needed to go to Settings>iCloud and turn all your synced data such as contacts to Off, at which point you would received the option to keep the data on your phone so you could then upload it to the new account. Seems like your only option at this point would be to contact support to see if they would reset your password on your old account and send the new one to your current email addres so you could access your contacts, or better yet, migrate them to your new account for you. Beyond that, I'm out of ideas.

Dec 20, 2014 10:23 AM in response to climbflaby MarkT70,Having just changed my Apple ID to separate myself from my son who was sharing my ID I can tell you how to handle this in IOS7. I went to the Apple web site and established my new ID.
I followed the advice on this support page to change my Apple ID Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
I then followed the advice on this page to update the ID on my device Sign in with a different Apple ID on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
IMPORTANT!!!! When you delete your iCloud for your old Apple ID off your phone you will lose all your documents that are in the cloud but not your contacts that are out in the cloud. Also, before following the directions on the"Sign in with a Different Account" page to delete the iCloud Apple ID first turn off iCloud sync on each item individually. When you turn off the sync it will ask you if you want to keep the data on your phone. Yes you do want this. After turning off sync individually Delete the iCloud account for the old Apple ID. Then when you then sign into iCloud with your new Apple ID select the Merge option and it will upload all your contacts and data to the iCloud account for your new Apple ID.
If you simply Delete your iCloud account it will delete all your contacts off your phone. If you delete iCloud without first turning sync off Contacts and your contacts are then deleted off your phone, don't worry. Simply log back into iCloud with your old account and your contacts will be restored. Then you can turn off the sync on all items, Delete the old account from iCloud, sign in with the new apple Id, select Merge iPhone data. So it puts your contacts and data from your phone into your new iCloud account.
