iPhone update loop after OTA to iOS 6

So I went to update my iPhone 4 from iOS5 to iOS6 over-the-air and after verifying it rebooted to the apple logo and then a progress bar. This bar gets nowhere and doesn't do anything except reboot later. My pc or mac do not see the device and so I cannot do anything.

Also I have data on the phone that isn't backed up which I'm rather annoyed about but that happened. Is there anything I can do? When at the progress bar is the phone trying to access something that isn't there? It's all rather vague and where apple are being simple really doesn't help the update process.
