Since updating to iOS 6 I no longer can hear the send and recieve text sounds when texting

I'm actually having an issue similar to yours. When my phone is off and I'm not currently using it (like actively texting), I will receive a text but a notification will not pop up on my screen nor is there no sound along with it, if I have my sound turned on. So I never know if anyone has text me unless I press the home button. I hope there is a resolution to this. Very annoying.

I am having the exact same problem. No notifications or vibration when recieving any type of message. Very frustrating when I have deadlines. I have checked all my settings but nothing has fixed the issue yet. HELP

Ok I found the fix. Do a hard reboot of the phone. Hold down the power and home buttons until the phone shuts off. That fixed my issue.

I've done all of those things and still no change. I have no idea what else I can do.

i'm having the same problem, Kt8910. i did a hard reset AND a restore. not a clue what is going on. very irritated because i need to hear my texts to set up appts and meet people when we go out. its frustrating when i'm waiting for someone and they text to tell me they're running late and i don't see the message for 20 minutes because i didn't get a text tone alert and i didn't hit the home button on my own.

HELP!

Ok, so I found the solution the other day by reading another discussion. I looked at my iTunes version and it is up to date, BUT, I saw that someone said you need to update it manually by going to the downloads page on Apple's website, which is under the support tab. Find iTunes 10, download it, and then sync your phone. Magically, it worked for me, thank God! So I hope this works for you!

I was SO hoping it would work but it didn't. not happy about it at all. I've been going thru a lot lately and a friend sent me 2 text messages asking me if I was ok. he knows I live by my phone but didn't answer and he got upset with me.

Ugh, man! Well the only other thing I would suggest is call Apple and tell them you have tried everything or even go into an Apple store if there is one near you.

I had the same problem and tried everything! Just disable "DO NOT DISTURB" - the halfmoon must not show. This will solve the problem.

as far as I can see the dnd feature is off. still not workin. I'm hoping my store can help.

Try setting your TXT tone to DEFAULT if you are using a custom tone. This fixed the problem for me.

I have reported this to Apple and they are escalating the issue since the tech did not show this as a "known" issue yet.

Has anyone found a resolution to this?? I even called Apple and they didn't know what the deal was, suggested I restore, I did, and it didn't work. I have missed many messages due to this malfunction. I will try what DGitter suggested...but I think I already did...Hopefully Apple is actually escalating the issue...I just set the tones to default and the sounds are working...but I want to be able to have different tones for different people....grrrrrrr

UPDATE:

Apple Support asked me for copies of my custom tones on Friday. Hopefully this means that they are working on figuring it out.

I will update the thread as more info is available...

mine isn't even an issue with custom tones. it's just the "spell" tone. I better not have this problem when my 5 gets here. >:(
