Can't delete duplicate photos in iPad's Photo iOS 6

After loading iOS 6 on the new iPad, I noticed that all my pictures are duplicated just in the iPad and cannot be deleted.

iPhoto in my MacBook looks fine, without any duplicate.

When syncing the new iPad to iTunes, several new events where created. I have deselected Sync Photos on the top - so no photos will be synced with the iPad and hoping that this would delete all photos from my iPad. By doing this "Albums", "Events" and "Faces" have been removed from the top bar in iPhoto of the iPad. This has not solved the problem though because in "Photos" there are still the thousands of photos and they CANNOT be deleted.

If I click "Edit" and select the photos to be deleted, the red "delete" button cannot be cliked ("share" button comes on in white but the "delete" button stays off). And in "share" it only gives me the option to mail, message, facebook, print and copy.

There doesn't seem to be a way of deleting this duplicate photos in iPad.

Solved the problem of having a load of my iPhoto library in the iPad and not being able to delete it.

Plug in the iPad with USB and import any photos you want to keep into iPhoto. Delete after import, so there is nothing in the Camera Roll.

Go the photo syncing tab in iTunes. Turn on syncing, but don't select any items to sync, so you are telling it to sync nothing. Apply and sync. Turn off photo syncing. Sync.

All photos should now be gone from the iPad and you can start from fresh.

I think my issue was a corrupted preference telling the iPad to sync the "last 12 months" smart album from iPhoto, despite it not being selected.

According to my experience it is good to use Image Capture utility on a Mac - this reads photos and movies on the iPad (and iPhone) - then you can select what to delete and what to leave.

It doesn't deal with photostream, albums, events etc but just opens the Photos that are not usually deletable. But honestly, I still can't see much logic in the photo management - the utility doesn't see some of the pictures on the iPad, but shows some I can't find on it on the other hand.

I just freed over 4GB of space anyway.

Unless I'm just not understanding something right Apple has just got another angry but previously happy customer. I finally put some photos onto my iPad 2 syncing via iTunes to a folder on my HD on a Mac. I'd previously only put them on via the card reader. Now I find in iOS6 that I cannot delete any of these photos individually or even the whole album from the iPad itself. This is simply an outrageous restriction of my ability to control what is or is not on my iPad. I do not always have access to a computer or want to access one and if I want to delete a photo it should just be no big deal and should be doable anytime and anyplace of my choosing. If I transfer images to a "new" album I can delete those but not the orginal one. Just not acceptable IMO.
